thanks dude.

did the last test of the piping, fits great, now i just need to install the plugs and wires, finish up the battery install, and fill it up with fluids.

a few pics.

the wire for the battery relocation (the tray should be here today or tommorow)

what i had waiting for me when i pulled the kick panel plastics to run the wire:

haha... also noticed it has a toyota security system...but looks like it was either dealer, or owner installed. definetly not OEM.
worries me a bit..lol

wow.
i've been excited for alot of the projects i've done over the years here, and have had alot of fun doing so, but i gotta tell ya, this morning, when this package arrived, it was one of the best moments i've ever had while doing this stuff.

im excited to show you guys the first "offical" JDM Guy Garage Item (lol), our Optima Battery Tray / Relocation Kit.

a few pics of the Battery Tray itself:

i had a couple extra hold downs made:

The full relocation kit will include:
  • The Battery hold down Tray, with hardware and made to fit Red and Yellow Top 35/75 and 34/78 series Batteries.
  • High Quality 0GA Power and Ground Cables, cut to length, grommets to run it thru the interior plastics, and copper lugs soldered in place.
  • Battery Terminals (Optional)
  • Install Instructions

All the Customer will need to do is install the tray, run the wire, bolt the power cable to the positive battery wire in the engine bay, bolt on whatever battery terminal they choose (we can supply these as well) install the battery, ground it with the supplied ground cable, and make the connections.

The Tray by itself will run ~90$ shipped, the complete kit is TBA, im pricing everything out before i set the price.

sure, the battery tray itself is universal.
the custom part would be the wiring, i could send over all the parts and you could make your own cables, or if you know the exact length i could make them.

so i went out and installed the tray last night.

its a bit tricky in the alltrac, since the fuel tank is right under the area where i normall install it, and the fuel pump wiring cover and wiring is also in that spot.

so what i did was cut 4 "standoffs" to raise the tray off the floor of the trunk an inch, so the wiring and plugs wont get pinched by the tray at any point.

a few pics:

you can see the standoff here in this pic, its the blue thing under the tray:

Very nice work there Manny; this build is truly one of the best on the board...and it's not even a 6gC. biggrin.gif

Can't wait to see the work you'll complete the rest of this week.

Dude, I remember your first exhausts and as uber impressive as it was at the time - you've come a LONG way! As a custom fabricator myself, I tip my hat to you sir! You truly have done an amazing job on this and every other aspect of the car so far!
And if I know my man Jim, he's just gonna make it 100% better after he gets the keys in his hands!

QUOTE (presure2 @ Dec 20, 2010 - 10:34 AM) *

As it so happens I am in the middle of a second, trunk mounted battery install myself. I already have my second Red Top back there ready to go but no tray. hmmmm....
Now I've always said [and held to it] my baby gets only top-of-the-line parts parts or it's OEM all the way - no corners cut. So that being said, how could I get anything BUT the best for my hold down tray? And I'll be happy as hell to proudly display a JDM guy hold down [with that uber-pimp CNC embossing - fcuking such a nice touch dude!]!!!!
So put me down as your first solid customer please!!!
I have only one condition: I'll need a logo to take to the sticker shop so I can proudly display a JDM Guy sticker or two under my hood [rightly situated next to such other premier brands as TRD, HKS, ARP, MSD, Blitz, APEX'i, GReddy, Magnaflo, KOYO, AEM, NGK, ACT etc etc] wink.gif

Eagerly awaiting the next update!!!

finished up the battery install yesterday, buttoned up the vac lines, filled it with fluids ect.
when jenn gets home from work today, imma go out, put some gas in it, set the fuel pressure, do the last minute checks, and FIRE IT UP!

smile.gif
some pics of the battery install.

drilled a couple holes in the body plastic, and installed grommets for the cables to pass thru:

my process for assembling the cables:

place the lug in a vice (or hold it with some vice grips), and heat it with a propane torch (you can kinda see the flame in the left of the pic:

some thick silver based solder:

while heating the lug with the torch, place the solder into the lug, allow it to melt, filling it about 3/4 of the way up. (again, you can see the flame in the left of the pic if you look close)

while keeping the solder nice and hot, insert the cable, hold it in place, and remove the heat, and allow it to cool while the solder hardens.

some heat shrink over it, and your done!

slip the installed cables thru the grommets in the interior plastics:

install your battery terminals, bolt down your battery, and your done!

Nice method man! I might have to do just that.
What do you use for power cable?

im using some high quality 0GA power cable, normally used for high power amp installs and the like.
got it from ebay. (cheaper than buying it locally for me)
