Thought I'd show some of the progress on the vette so far and track along with what happens in the future. I bought the car March 11th 2010. Since then I've really only done minor work to just keep it running smooth on the road, with plans of a frame off restoration after I finish flight school and move to my first air station (approx fall 2013). I also wanted to get the 3SGTE swap done on my celica before really ripping into the vette, but now that the motor is in... its time to play PS: she didn't run when I got her..
So here is the work to date.. (copied from my build thread on my local car club race850) Bought the car to build/restore it over the long run. I don't plan on getting rid of her anytime soon. -1970 corvette coupe (ttops) -350ci SBC (5.7L) V8 Current problems.. -Leaks a lot -Doesn't run smooth (carb jets clogged?) -Gas tank is nasty (grit and junk in the bottom) -Exhaust leak up front (this is brand new, not happy about this one) -Needs some suspension work Pics of it so far and some of the work done.. (chronological) the old fuel filter and fuel that was in the tank.... New intake manifold, carb and air cleaner: winter in new england: Still having trouble with the fuel tank (two filters to be safe until i get a new tank): Pics: Did some work to the vette. Not much, but it all adds up in the end. Steering wheel was out of alignment. Broke my horn in the process of pulling the wheel though.. bummer this is a block off plate for an older style choke... it came loose and I though I had an exhaust leak. It was loudddd. and changed out the fuel filters again... this is after only 500 miles, if that. Another guy on base has this red 76'. It sits so much higher than my 70. His car is really clean, but I'll take the 70 with the chrome bumpers anyday. So the car has been running real rough and I attribute it to the dirty gas tank clogging up the carburetor. So I dropped the tank today and I ordered a new one. I rebuilt the carb, put the gas tank in and had a chance to paint most of the frame behind the rear wheels. The frame is in amazing condition for being 41 years old. It had only light surface rust that was easily wired brushed off. The car is running a lot smoother now that the carb has been rebuilt and the tank is clean. I blew out the lines with compressed air, replaced the fuel filters, cleaned out the mechanical fuel pump and replaced all of the rubber lines. The engine is running real nice now, but still bogs a tiny bit when you first put it under load. I'm going to check the vacuum system now as I suspect the vac advance canister on the distributor might be bad. This post has been edited by jcbass7: Jul 21, 2012 - 1:20 PM |

Awesome, best car on the site. *dodges random projectiles* Hmm, still running rough... Have you changed plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor button yet? Exhaust leak, just an excuse to go get headers.
