So is there a reason so many people are getting holes in there engine block of their 5 sfe engine? Im starting to think so. This happened to 2 of my engines. Finally I tore apart the bottom end and found out that the number one piston connecting rod was shattered. This happened to me twice, and i am seeing it all over the internet. whats the deal?

Yeah I've heard nothing but good things about how long 5SFE's last, its not uncommon to go past 400k on them.

yea, its really not all that common.
the most common causes for it are just really poor maintinence (not changing oil or maintaining good oil levels), although the last engine i saw do it was full when it happen, it had been previously abused. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

^ Same problem with my last engine. I'd purchased it totaled and had been sitting for a long time. Engine ran good after some minor work, and was upgraded over an over, bit by bit.
but it ran over 250K witch i'm not really complaining about. the last straw was when i had gotten back from a work trip to mexico, (7day) hopped in the car and immediately got lead footed on the Oh-So-fun to rip up gravel at the shop. Didn't give it a chance to warm up, i was just happy to be back in my car and outta that stoopid F450 i call a work truck... Stupid move, Yes. New engine was sitting for a bit, but runs like a charm after a bit of TLC. End story, YES- the way you treat it is Directly related to how long she'll last!! -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW!
