So this weekend I finally dove into my vacuum problem this weekend. If you flip back a few pages you can see my dyno chart looks retarded... with smoothing set to 5. I realized my EGR system was wide open and was pulling in fresh air (instead of inert exhaust gas) unmetered and making it run lean... thus pulling timing.
So I went to the AutoZone around the corner from my house and picked up a sheet of exhaust gasket material. I traced out my EGR gasket - minus the hole in the center - and cut it out with some tin snips. I put that between my EGR assembly and the intake manifold to create a block-off plate... and the car ran like crap. So back to the garage I went digging around. After about 30 minutes of checking vac lines I noticed in my haste to move the EGR assembly I knocked an injector plug off of an injector... I was only running on 5 cylinders. I put that back on and DEAR BABY JESUS THIS CAR IS QUICK... Before, the Torque app on my phone would give me a WHP rating of 168ish (the dyno said 172). Given that under-rating by my OBD-II app, the program is giving me consistent readings in the 210's... which should hopefully mean a dyno run will result in a slightly higher value. I scheduled that for a date after Thanksgiving. I was watching fuel trims and timing while driving around this weekend and everything looks to be back to original spec... which makes me very happy. I also replaced my fuel gauge which would never read correctly and installed red LED bulbs in my cluster... That is the extent of my modifications for a while. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

The app is called Torque. I have it synced to a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter hooked into my ECU, so it's pulling it's data from actual ECU data calculated against the weight of the car. It seems pretty accurate. I hardly ever use the part that gauges power ratings, I just use it to interface with my ECU to see raw data like short and long term fuel trims, timing advance, vacuum, coolant temp, etc.

Went back to the dyno today and have some good news... and some bad news to my wallet.
Ran better - got MUCH better numbers and the chart looks healthier... but only for my first run. After the car warmed up it performed like dog sh*t again. It is now running full rich (before it was lean), and it is really limiting my power potential. My tuner said we're just fighting the ECU at this point, and it needs to go. He pitched a LinkG4 Atom standalone to me and I am going to go down that road hopefully next month. Here is the dyno chart. They cut the first run short (red), and the second run tanked. So did the third, and so we let it cool down for a while... and the last run we got what you can see in blue. You can see the AFR drops off rich really early... and look at what it did to my chart. So standalone ECU coming in the next month or so, and we'll have some better numbers then. Just imagine what the specs might be if that first run would just continue to run up through the rest of the RPM range. le sigh... ALMOST there! -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

Bam. Worst dyno run vs final... granted the first one is with a major vac leak.

That's a lot of torque for an MR2. I bet passing traffic will be the most fun you can have without buying a ticket.

Oh sweet baby Jesus...
So I went and picked up the car... and I need to replace my rear pads and get my wheel re-balanced. Apparently on their test drive one of my rear driver's side caliper bolts fell out and the caliper fell off the rotor - burning through the pad and the caliper took all of the wheel weights off. Joyous. They got a bolt and put it back on for me, though I'll take it to Discount Tire and have them do it, since it's free. I took it for a little shakedown run down the street, onto the highway, and back... and this thing is scary fast, but the power delivery is buttery smooth. The moment you apply any pressure to the pedal the torque is there pushing you back into the seat and you have it all the way to 6,000 RPM. The Link ECU has a rev limiter entry for however high you want so Drift-Office put the limiter at a little past 6K RPM. It can certainly keep going, but you're not making any more power, so there wasn't any point to it. Plus now I have a nice tach sweep on power up, which makes me feel special -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money
