So I'm almost ready to pull my engine and trans, all I need to do now is undo the mounts and it can come right out. Except for the shifter cables, they're held in by these C-clips that I can't get out. I don't know what I'm missing here, is there something holding them in or are they just rusted to the case? Neither one will move at all.

u need like bent nose pliers or something with alot of grip surface and pull it up firmly.. u might need to spray at it some crc or wd40 or watever toolbox in a can u guys use over there..

looks like they are pretty rusted up.
spray em down with some pb blaster, let it sit a couple minutes, give em a couple taps with a hammer. lock on a good pair of needle nose vice grips along the gripping surface, and walk it up and out by wiggling the vice grips up and down. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Well I just tried it, and they still won't move! The clips are soaking in PB Blaster now, I'll try it again in an hour or so and hopefully they'll come out.

So they're still stuck! I'm thinking, if I can't get them off tomorrow, I'll have to disconnect the cables from the shifter itself in order to pull the trans. How do I do that? I looked at it briefly but couldn't see an easy way to remove them.

grab tab with vice grips, wiggle side to side and pull up. once up a little, slip flat blade screw driver between gap and clip and pop it up the rest of the way.

The corrosion is going to make it difficult. Spray it down and give it some love with a hammer. That'll help the penetrating fluid get where it needs to go, then grab some pliers and wiggle it side to side, once they start moving spray them down again and keep going. They'll climb their way off. Then think about sanding the contact surfaces when you put it all back together.

I ended up just taking them off the shifter. Turned out to be easy that way. Now I just have to get the rear engine mount off, and it can all come out!

lol having the same issue with my car... finally u just need to tap it with a long flat screwdriver and a hammer from under the car
