if you remove the stock shifter and cut the bottom rod and weld in a spacer to the rod and compensate for the extension on the plastic seat the shifter sits in will it function just like a short shifter?

I want something clarified. You want to cut the rod off, as that how-to says. I understand that. But are you wanting to put spacers beneath the plastic assembly that the rod sits in to raise it up, more like a true short shifter? Turning what you have now into this?

From how I understand, yes it will function like a quick shifter. The longer arm below the pivot will take less distance to get in gear, and you'll need spacers to give it clearance. But why go to all the bother cutting and welding and such when you can just buy a shifter for $15-20 shipped?

(the bar that controls wiggling the shifter side to side for instance to go from first to reverse) I want something clarified. You want to cut the rod off, as that how-to says. I understand that. Several members have fitted the 7th gen Celica short shifter in our 6th gens. But there are numerous complaints that it rubs on the E-brake handle because our shifter has a curve in it and the 7th gen is straight. Personally, I'm curious how your idea will turn out. Worst case scenario, you end up with exactly what the 6gc how-to has.

In fact I worried about the bend as well but there is nothing to worry about mine came out centered in the shift boot. I just bought any 7gc short shifter, it may be their installation or even a universal product that can fit it. What will the brass shifter bearings do for me in terms of shift feel? Because I'm thinking about getting the 7gc shifter and the brass bearings as well that way I can do it all at once.

you have the riser bushings replaced with the shifter which gives it a tigher feel, and then the brass bushings where it connects to the transmission, i have both and the feel is amazing, you will never miss another gear

Guys, it isn't hard. Go into your engine bay, pop the shift cables off the transmission one at a time (so you don't somehow find a way to cross them), gut the bushing in the cable end, install brass bushing and the c-clip, and put it back on the transmission.
there is your how-to. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money
