Good news! I'm buying the e153 LSD off of Toy! Can't wait to get it installed and reap the benefits of limited slip. All I do currently is burn out!

Plan on doing another dyno run once the new transmission is in? Just to see what you can put down getting traction. tongue.gif

I'm almost afraid that it will put down less because of the gear ratio.

They're not that far off each other, and if anything torquier engines like lower ratios anyway.

Quick question guys. I don't have the rear mount bracket for the e153 that I'm putting in my car. I need to find out if the MR2 e153 rear bracket will work or if I need to find one from an e154f. Any input would be super helpful. I need to buy this thing sooner than later.

e154f for rear mount/bracket.

Well guys I got my E-153 installed.

I know there aren't many fans of Spec clutch here, and this is just a review. Not an advertisement.
I researched a lot of clutches before I made my decision. By FAR Spec has the highest torque ratings for the price! A comp or ACT would only be comparable to my stage 3 Spec if I bought a stage 4 or more of these other brands. The pressure plates are great! I still feel like I'm driving a very streetable car, and I don't have to put my foot through the floor just to press in the clutch.
The engagement isn't even harsh, and it's a 6 puck. Either way. I was very impressed.

The installation was very tough to pull off on the ground in my garage. After I finished the installation I went for a test drive, and thought all was well! I had my fingers crossed that I wasn't going to need axle spacers, since the original owner didn't need to use them, but he was on factory suspension, and mine is lowered on coilovers.
The test drive was going great until I decided to give it the beans. As soon as it hit 60 under full acceleration I felt a very unstable cyclical wobbling coming from the front left. The axle hadn't popped out, but had actually hyper extended itself during acceleration.
Further inspection after limping it home prove that I'm going to need to add at least a 1/2 inch spacer on that side to keep the axle happy. The driver side seems to be okay at this time, but I'm able to pop the axle in and out of the transmission by about 3/16ths of an inch. Both these measurements were taken with the car on jack stands.
So currently I'm waiting for my local machine shop to finish making some spacers. If all goes well I won't re-post, but if I still experience the same issue I will report back.

E-153
The good: The E153 is a much smoother transmission, and now I can see why Toyota would have paired this motor and transmission together. The shifts are very tight, the fifth gear rev's are very low.
The Bad: Dealing with hybrid axles, and axle issues is inconvenient. The acceleration isn't nearly as ripping as the S54 trans. I feel more like I'm driving a turbocharged Mustang.

S54
The good: The acceleration is bonkers off the wall and hilarious at times. It scares both you and your passengers, and creates some torque steer fun (if that's your kind of thing).
The bad: The s54 is not happy in 5th gear at lower speeds like the E153. I found myself constantly cruising in 4th to keep the revs up for a smooth ride during my commute. Torque steer can become exhausting, and makes for terrible wheel spin.
The biggest down side to having an S54 with and open diff can be realized when participating in 1/4 mile track events. You burn out through 2nd and sometimes 3rd, and don't catch up to your opponent until 4th and 5th. You cross the finish line at a high rate of speed, but ultimately lose the race due to your trap speed.

All said and done, I will miss my s54, but look forward to the evolution of this E153.

I appreciate that review of the e153 vs s54.

I'm about to install my s54 today, and I had my doubts if it was worth the money. I feel more confident now.

I have a bunch of acceleration videos with the s54. Once I get everything finished with the E153 I will make some more so that people have a comparison of RPM's and acceleration in specific gears. So maybe the videos will show which transmission is the king of certain gears, and uses.

Sounds great, hope to have some insight to join in as well!

My axle spacers were completed today so I picked them up on my lunch break. A buddy and I installed them tonight. I used a 1/2 inch spacer on the passenger side because it was hyper extending under full acceleration.
I used a 3/16th's spacer on the driver side because it was popping out slightly. We took it for a test drive when finished. Both outers are new and freshly greased, and I believe it may have taken a few turns and some acceleration to solve the issue
because it vibrated like crazy for the first two miles. After hitting some boost up to 60mph the vibration has since stopped. I guess the centrifical force helped seat the bearings properly, and allow the grease to spread through the yolk.

Guys...I've gotta tell ya....I never expected it to accelerate so incredibly quick. The steering is even, no torque steer, and incredibly predictable, but holy s*** it blows both tires up through third, and it's only at 12psi. On top of that the front tires are at 15psi.
I've gotta say I'm thrilled, and so happy that I took this plunge!

Thank's to my Washington State buddy with the awesome hook up on this transmission! The LSD FREAKING RIPS!

See, I told you going to the E153 would be a good idea. Nobody ever believes me. tongue.gif

Question though, why are the tires so flat? It'd suck to have a blowout from the sidewall rubbing, or end up hydroplaning. I get the lower pressure to help with traction ordeal, but I wouldn't use anything less than 26 psi or so on the street. Look into the Cooper Zeon RS3-S tires, they're a fantastic tire and fairly priced. It's what my brother put onto his Genesis 2.0T to replace the original Bridgestone Potenzas and they made a huge improvement, especially in wet weather.
