My car handles pretty well on smooth roads, but when I get on roads with imperfections or bumps, my steering wheel has a tendency to jolt around left to right according to the bump. My prev vehicle was RWD so this never really occurred. Is this normal for a FWD car or is something loose/in need of replacement? Thanks. |

Same here. Power steering isn't super tight.

i would say, if the car is old, which ours are...replace the steering rack pinion, check for other steering replacement...endlinks, anything with the suspension and made out of rubber...see if it is torn...engine mounts

What other things will need replaced in the suspension/steering? This car is relatively new to me so I still haven't figured out the suspension set up etc. Anyone have diagrams or anything? Should I replace sway bar endlinks etc? |

Should I replace sway bar endlinks etc? It wouldn't hurt to replace endlinks, IIRC, they aren't connected to the steering assembly, so they wouldn't be the cause. -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

It sounds like you are describing some worn struts. New struts always seem to help that "bouncing all over the road" feel. I'd say you probably are in need of struts badly if it is causing that.
Side note: When I installed new axles, I noticed the steering became very much "tighter" than it was previously. Also more sensitive, felt like a new car. I wouldn't go replacing things like crazy though. The cars are old, as chacha mentioned before, and things are getting loose and worn. Edit: Try the bounce test. QUOTE (14:19:21) Daniel: That was a JDM hole in the side of the box too. There was so much JDM trapped inside that box that they couldn't contain it, so they had to put a JDM hole in the box to let the JDM out. QUOTE Ferdi says (11:29) No, it looks like a hooker put her acid vag on your hood. Acid vag = bigger problem than a few dings. |
