I have thought about installing a transponder key setup in my celica and wondered if anyone knows a lock cylinder from a newer car that is interchangeable with the celica AND if anyone has successfully mounted one and connected it to the aftermarket EMS.

OR..

if anyone has installed a push-to-start button with the remote key like in the newer lexus's

honestly both are pretty different features and in reality they suck. Im stuck bypassing these all day for customers that want remote start in their cars, for one, each key is like 80 and up because it needs the immobilizer and prgramming. Also the money you are going to spend, you might as well buy the smart start for your phone and use a starter kill if security is your priority. All in all immobilizers just cause problems.

Yeah, we have had a lot of problems with the chrysler immobilizers on our rental cars here. The Town/Countrys and Neons seem to be the problematic ones. We just have the lock cyl rebuilt to factory specs and/or send them to the dealer for reprogramming. Usually that fixes it. We don't have many toyotas that we rent, so I can't pull the key/lock from the totaled ones, but if I can get a set from the insurance salvage yard here for a decent price I would try it. As long as I knew a lock cylinder that would fit. At worst, if it doesn't work then I can just sell it on ebay and all I've lost is time trying to get it going.

What I have always dreamed of is actually being able to store my autronic maps on a thumb drive and when I plug the thumb drive into it I just turn the key and the map is pulled from the thumb drive. Then I could keep a backup at home or something and the EMS is always blank. The ULTIMATE immobilizer system. Either that or tuning software that would run on my Android phone that I could have the map stored on, then when I want to start it I just plug the phone into the USB, and offload/upload the map to the phone so the autronic is blank. These are just dreams though...sigh..I can only wish......and of course email Autronic over and over until they make me something....muahahahahaaaaa
