Clutch Or Pressure Plate...or ???? Options

Hello all,

Having an issue with the ST....

I can shift under normal conditions easiely without issue. Now the problem I'm experiancing only comes into effect during heavy load.

RPMS will shoot up to about 3.8 - 4.2k and hold there while the car slowly accelerates...I of course don't hold it like that, but I have once or twice to see the outcome. Usually it gives off a foul smell, which I can only assume is the clutch cooking.

This will even happen lets say i'm in 2nd gear, going about 25, if I hit half throttle, it'll do it, but progressive gas is has no issue...

My clutch has always been high I guess you could say on the pedal, basically it doesn't do its work until its all the way to the top of the pedal release...I thought maybe there is an easy adjustment, and my pedal just couldn't be engaging everything correctly, but I have no found the means to adjust it..if that is even viable. These are all assumptions as I havn't dug into the internals persay of the vehicle...so alot of this will be quite the learning exp.

Any help in the right direction is appreciated, i'm trying to avoid taking it to a shop, as I know they'll hurt the wallet....but i've also helped change a clutch before, and with plenty of searching on here, i'm sure I could complete the task...just not sure what is broke.

Think I should go ahead and check the plate while I'm down there, I have no idea when any of the internals were last checked.

I was just told when I purchased her 2 years ago, "It has a new clutch" which didn't seem the case.

when you replace the clutch, have the pressure plate resurfaced. most places will do it for ~35-40$.

Dumbarse me, wasn't aware of the clutch fluid the resides directly right and below of the brake res.

Noticed it was below min. not much, but it was below...poured some fluid in, and its working alllot better, but you can tell the problem is still there.

So I might have purchased myself some time, but I think I found the cause of it going bad. Cause I'm really gentle with my clutch.

Changed the clutch out last weekend.

Everything went well, besides a few SAE bolts found stripped in the casing.

One little thing did pop up...I now have tapping in my clutch pedal when pressed down. Its not a aggressive tapping, just kinda feels like something is tapping the bottom of my shoe. Kind of weird.

Did I mess something up with the throw out bearing? Its driving fine and dandy, most power I've seen it have since I've purchased it.

Did you bleed the system too?

don't mean to steal the thread, but i have just purchase a Spec stage3+ clutch and plate....is that too much for a daily drive...i bought because i have got it for half the price on the market.

No you never resurface the pressure plate, you resurface the flywheel. the plate and disk both get replaced

Yes I bleed the system. Clutch works great and all, just have that tapping I cannot explain.

I believe the pressure plate comment was a typo.

Didn't need to resurface my flywheel, being the old clutch never dug much into it, because the system wasn't bled when the previous clutch was installed. Basically the rivets on the clutch never got to show their heads....but all thats out and fixed now anyway.

what type of clutch did you get a stock replacement, round face, or puck?

if you are not making crazy HP, just stick with a disk. you dont need a puck. Southbend makes a great replacement called the TZ. give andy in imports a call and tell him i sent you. he will hook you up.
