My Dad and I were talking about ways to clean my engine internally without completly tearing it down. He told me a great, easy, and inexpensive way to do this, is run karosene thru it as it idles. Apparently it cleans and and restores your pistons, cylinder walls and valves by cut through the carbon and old burnt oil that develope over time. He told me that during the cleaning process my car will smoke bad but only for a few minutes due to all of the dirt and carbon build up. That once the process is done and fresh new oil and filter have been replaced, and installed, the motor will be good to go.

Does anyone have any expierence or knowledge of this and have you noticed any sort of power gain that may have been lost over time?

It will smoke some crud out but it will not "repair" your engine at all.

Not looking to repair, because there is nothing wrong with it, lol. Just want to make sure everything is clean before I drop it back in for the time being. Im very high maintenance when it comes to the cleanliness of my car.

Yeah. You can use it to clean your fuel systems, intake, and oil systems. You already mentioned you were changing your oil and filter after too. It is recommended you change it around 200 miles after you seafoam your oil. I've personally only used it to clean out my intake, you just spray it in a vacuum line, lots of smoke, then its clean.

i can see this being very true, because a couple years ago i remember my dad got a car where the engine internals wouldn't even move because he bought a car from a lady who had the car 97k miles and never changed the oil once, he emptied out what he could of the oil, and poured in kero let it sit for 2 days, emptied it back out and put straight kero back in, did what you said about starting it and letting it run for about 5 minutes, then emptied it back out and did an oil change and it ran like a top again.

so i'd have to agree with you that it would clean everything very nicely inside

Yup, i just did it about a month ago before going synthetic on my baby.
All i did was pour the engine flush and run it for 5-7 min. and change the oil. I dont think its of any risk. Um not sure but u can also seafoam it, but dont take my word for it, RESEARCH!
