2.2 ( GT ) knock sensor will work, but your engine wont have the same power as with a 3rd gen knock sensor.

when people say, the 3rd gen has an aggresive tuning, it's because the knock sensor is slightly less sensitive than other engines, so it allows the engine to run higher timing, with a 2.2 ( GT) knock sensor you'll be running slightless less timing, which means less power, but also safer setup. I'm not discouraging you from using one, just making you aware of the trade offs.

Can't you use the 2nd gen knock sensor from a 3s? I know they are fairly expensive at the Toyota Dealership. I bought one for $230 from them because they are so hard to find... Good luck!
