im shopping around and trying to find a good one piece kit but trying to spend a max of 750 would it be easier to just just buy coilovers and god struts or just save more and get a good one piece kit? I know there are some good coilovers out here but which would be better

if you want to save money and at the same time get at least a 2" drop, get megan springs and kyb struts. coilovers, go with megan coilovers. just imo.

Megans if you want to take the cheap way out.

Teins if you want a decent coilover kit.


Springs and struts - depends on how low you want to go. Tein S-tech on GR2 shocks looks awesome. Tanabe springs will get you lower.

^ But Tanabe springs are soft. I personally recommend the Eibach Sportline/TRD spring and GR-2 strut setup, but hey, I'm biased! The Sportline springs did take about four months to fully settle, but it's worth it in my opinion.

based on many discussions throughout the forums, and many pluses for the megans. Megans have more adjustability, cheaper, better spring rates, and last longer. Teins do not even come with pillowball mounts basically an incomplete coilover kit that reuses stock top mounts unless you pay again extra on top of it. I've also compared these features vs my friends teins, and mine is better by feel mostly and everything else. I remember asking him, why is your suspension so soft, and he mentioned, dude that is the hardest setting. By opinion Megan>Tein (specifically Basics model). I do not know what defines higher end coilovers with just the fact of price, all other considered high end specs Megans offer. But really all coilovers are not created equally just like any other product. Even the same model one might last 1 day another might last 2 years, who knows? So not to be bias, fundamentally pick the one that suits your needs and gain product experience from them.

Still, there is a saying that there are things that are "bang for your buck"

off topic, and don't mean to steal the thread, but are camber bolts necessary for coilovers? and is there a certain type of shop that should work on alignment or can any shop do?

Some shop like the dealership won't deal with the alignment if it's got some aftermarket coilover...anyone have experience in this?


and to answer the thread...call up or email the seller on ebay to see if they'll discount it at a lower price if bought outside of ebay...you'd be surprise...i got my coilover ksport for 800 shipped.

nope don't need camber bolts, well you might if you are lowering 3.5-4". i had lots of camber after installing coilovers but the shop was able to adjust it back to near 0 so i wouldn't wear tires as bad. any shop can do it as long as you aren't too low for their equipment.

I personally like my D2 coils, basically ksports painted purple, but they can ride really soft or full on "Holy sh%^% was that a pothole or a crater", well worth the money, i think i paid somewhere around 950 USD shipped

what's the recommended specs for alignments on coilovers?

i maxed out on the camber and still have too much negative...is there any way i can make it less neg....im at 1/8 instead of the 1/4 i need to be at according to the shop i went to.

When Koni shock dynos a set and all four are valved differently I would call that a piece of sh*t.

I am also interested in the different coilover set-ups since I am in Japan and can order the Tein directly (with the included pillow-top mounts) but would like to know if there are other better options from those who have hands-on opinions. And no, I'm not trying to go cheap but quality is more important to me.

problem with the teins is they only lower maximum 2.4" in front and 1.2" in rear and most people are looking for more than that since you are still going to have considerable wheel gap. tein is a much better name than megan/ksport/d2 but they also outsource their production as their springs are actually made in china and not japan. bc's are also supposed to be decent and offer more adjustability since they have no helper spring, but again, they are made in taiwan which may be a problem for some people who want a jdm product.

it's name and preferance. i had netami springs and they were fine. now i have tenzo springs and have no issues. i dont auto-x or drag so it doesn't matter to me but i plan on getting megan coilovers once i get my settlement from my old job because i want lower.

I've never seen a set of Tein Superstreets for ST202 or ST205 use the stock top mounts. I think you may be confused with Tein S-Tech lowering springs.

Tein are pretty much the benchmark (and TRD if you happen to be lucky enough to have a set) for coilovers on the Celica ST20X.

If you can get a set of BC gold coilovers you'll find they are half the price and not half as bad. Never heard anything good about D2 or Ksport but definitely BC is the best of the Chinese bunch

trust me they don't always come with top mounts. certain teins come and come without.
