do rusted calipers affect braking? or is it just surface rust and cosmetic? so if i just sand the rust off and paint over it, would the rust come back just like how rust comes back on body panels?
also... uh... if you paint rotors to prevent rust... whch parts of the rotor should you paint? the whole thing? only the front? back and front? just the middle part that sticks up? -------------------- |

for your rotors, you can paint the middle part, dont get any paint on the surface of the rotor. rusted calipers wont be affected unless your brakes are doing something weird. use a high temp paint or caliper paint.

If you get paint on the surface, it just rubs off when you break. Makes the car brake bad for awhile and sound nasty. Also, get's stuff on your brake pads, but it goes away after a while. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

Make sure you prep hubs and backs of calipers before painting. Also, don't use a caliper paint because the rust will just come back through no matter how well you prep it. I did mine in Silver last fall and the rust just came back. This summer I bought special paint that has a rust inhibiter in it and it has worked well so far. Tape off your rotors. Painting them would be stupid. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

I used black paint to keep it all clean. It was also high temp engine paint. It hasn't rusted yet. I could have had an inhibater. But jgreen is right, painting the rotors is not such a great idea. It won't look very good, and it's just not the best idea. It's easy to remove the calipers to paint them.

Centric is the only company to use paint on the inside of the front vented rotors. I plan on getting brembo blank rotors in the next few days. Does the rust that builds up in between the disks on the rotor weaken the rotor overtime???

I paint my rotors with high temp spray...and I paint the whole lot.
Once dry take the car out slowly as first few times you will get virtually no braking, after a few miles of gentle braking all the paint is gone and you are left with a rotor which is painted right up to the pad contact point -------------------- |

I know brembo is a better quality brand vs Centric. I just like the fact that centric uses paint on the inside of the front vented rotors. is there any other brand like this as good as Centric. we
well nvm I just order front brembo discs on there way with the right size and part number such a relieve haha!!! -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

the surface of the rotor will rust no matter what if the cars outside sitting, but will go away after a couple steps on the brake. rust is forming on my recently painted rotors and calipers too.
