Six of one, half a dozen of the other. The RX8 is the newer car, so it will have fewer problems. However, that rotary engine will need to be rebuilt and I very seldom ever see one for sale with more than 75,000 miles. Take your pick of which set of ownership expenses you prefer. Personally, I'd take the RX8.

^x2 but i'd say go rx8. better looking in my opinion... parts still available and there are plenty of build options with that motor. plus the 300zx is a hugeeee pain in the ass to work on. you ever opened that hood? you got ZERO room to work on anyyyything.

^ x2 on the 300zx having no room.
If you got the money to spend on having someone do all the work on it, get the 300zx. If you dont, take option 3: 3rd gen RX7 Its a rotary, and looks way better than an rx8 -------------------- -Protection mode, For when your amp tries to blow its load. 1995 Toyota Celica GTS - Daily Driver 1999 Chevy Cavalier - Winter Beater 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback - Dead My Celica! |

Well the rx8 is a better handling car however the 300zx has a lot more power to it. Yes working on the 300 may be more of a pain but i am more comfortable with the normal piston/cylinder engine compared to a rotary haha. I think i am in need of a test drive of both. I did read also that the 300 will get about 22 mpg and the rx8 is only around 17 so that may be a deciding factor with how expensive gas is getting and will get.

BOTH are very thirsty for gas. RX-8 imo is just more practical. Newer, less problems will occur, Less maintenance, better handling and with the right exhaust sounds SWEEEEEET! 300z like everyone says is hard to work on. Like a GTO, CRAMPED engine bay. I would take an RX8 personally between the two. Get what you feel is right though

i recommend the scion ft86 x2. ...but that's if you want a new new car. Between the two you listed though I'd choose the RX-8 although I prefer the 300ZX's styling. -------------------- Has no more Celicas

Definitely RX8 of the two:
1. 10+ years of technology 2. Newer=lower miles and less problems 3. Parts availability/price 4. Doors 5. better fuel economy (though undeniably still bad) 6. Quieter/smoother ride 7. Can be MADE fast fairly easily 8. Things seem to be generally loosely put together on older 90's cars (i.e. hit a bump and it sounds like you've got $15 worth of change in your dash) but thats just my opinion... also in my opinion, 350z trumps both for a little more moolah |

I understand they both have problems but I'd like to know how the new car has less? Just because it's new? #3 is essentially untrue, Nissan parts from ANY car from the 90s are easy to obtain. 5 is completely untrue, with free spirited driving the rotary motor gets worse mpg PERIOD! As for #7, so can the 300. All understandable reasons for picking one car over another, however a lot of these particular reasons aren't true. Just saying... @op, you planning on getting a car asap or you feeling it out? Are these for sure your only 2 options? i've had 2 rx8's, and 2 rx7's.....they will be reliable as long as you take care of them. and they are nowhere near boring if u get the manual tranny, granted not super fast but fun to rev up and they weigh less than the 300zx.IMO its just a better layout..ive had my share of driving 3 300zx's in the past and they all rattled more than an angry snake, and the snap oversteer is hard to get out of if u loose it in a drift.
IN THE END it doesn't matter everyone's gonna be 50/50 it depends on what u want to put your hard work in, if u don't care and have all the time in the world get the Z(u will be spending money just to keep the whole car together), and the 8 the only real worry would be to take proper care of the motor, everything else is newer and will hold up. |

nissan would be the 350z, 08' preferably, dual intake, beautiful factory 5 spokes, 18s i think, 6speed, anddd sexy lol. but id get the speed3, becauses its a 4door with some balls. -------------------- st205 powered ss3 coupe

You've apparently never seen the engine bay on a 300ZX TT... Impossible to work on.
