I found this.
No Radiation Found in Hawaii Mail (Yet?) Although low levels of radiation have been found in mail from Japan at two of five United States Postal Service international service centers, no radiation has been detected at the Honolulu center yet. The radiation levels were detected at the New York and San Francisco centers during routine screenings conducted by the Customs and Border Protection, said Duke Gonzalez, media spokesman for the United States Postal Service in Hawaii. "No radiation has been detected in Japan mail at the Honolulu ISC/Processing & Distribution Center," he wrote in an e-mail to Civil Beat. "We are working with CBP officials in Honolulu to ensure that all incoming mail from Japan is properly screened for radiation." Loading No mail will be processed or delivered until it has been cleared by the CBP. Still, Gonzalez said, postal employees may request and use personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks while handling mail from Japan. "We are making every effort to ensure the safety of our employees, customers and the mail," Gonzalez said. The USPS has five international service centers in Honolulu, New York, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Each of them distributes and dispatches international mail received from designated service areas. as expect it, mail from Japan is screened by Customs before it's " cleared " so I wouldn't worry about it, if radiation levels are high enough to be a threat to human health, customs won't cleared said package / container -------------------- |

Just because item was irradiated... it does not make it radioactive. People are concerned about food products being contaminated because radiation does its damage on a cell level in living organisms. More importantly it is public knowledge that many electronics emit some levels of radiation. Cell phones, microwaves, tvs, even cars. In most cases radiation levels are so minute that they do not cause any significant impacts so approved by fda/cdc.
Currently production has slowed in japan because some toyota factories and warehouses have been impacted and toyota's main priority right now is to rebuild its plants so they could produce more parts as soon as possible. For time being they have scaled down production all around the world because shipment of parts have been interrupted but in time that will be fixed as well. Realistically speaking this is what needs to happen to make car parts hazardous to health. They need to be in direct contact with a nuclear fall out and shipped with radioactive dust to then cause some health concerns. Outside of that radiation is very much a part of sterilization and is wildly used during packaging so it is reasonably safe. -------------------- Captain Pessimist

lol fear of radiation? I dunno how bad radiation can be, but I would be more afraid of those lead painted toys we sell on the shelves here from Taiwan then I would be of that on car parts and such... If I were Japan, I would fear the radiation affecting a sea iguana and creating the legendary Godzilla in REAL LIFE!

the problem is not radiation itself..
its that customs deny entry of the package.. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL
