Since the Celica blew a head gasket, I need a new beater for work, something with decent gas mileage. I have around 3k to play around with. I don't want anything too common like a civic/integra. I was playing with the idea of getting a miata, or an mr2, or maybe even another 6gc.

I would just toss 3k into a new motor/setup, but with gas prices the way they are, I can't seem to justify doing so at this point in time.

Cliff notes:

Miata vs MR2 vs 6GC

This post confounds me. You say you want a beater, but then you say MR2 or Miata. Get your priorities figured out, then make a rational decision. Because neither of those are beater-status.

I have an idea... why not just fix your Celica?

Problem solved.

If you find an mr2 for that price, it will most likely need money put into it..

a beter would be any car that is cheap, saves gas, and is cheap for insurance.

None of those cars you listed satisfy those requirements.

beater ie: old corolla, old civic,

I guess beater was the wrong terminolgy to use. What I'm looking for is something fun to drive but wont break the bank. I picked up my celica 5 years ago for around 3-4k and that was the best decision I made. Fun to drive, decent gas mileage, relatively low maintainence. I don't know. I confuse myself as well =/

Why not like an older Celica.

I got an 88 corolla gts for $500.00 and have since put 80,000 miles on it with very little work
or problems.

I would look for a late 80s early 90s toyota 4x4, you can pick one up for about that,
drive it and resell in a year or 2 with almost no loss.
