before it died.... it chokes alittle and sometimes stalls when making complete stops. but one day it, all of a sudden, shut off on the highway (about 70mph) checked for spark and there was no spark, so i replaced the distributor, cap and rotor, but still it didnt start..... i am guessing it might be the fuel pump that caused it to shut off. i cant hear it buzz when the ignition is on. any suggestions?? 99 celica 5sfe

sounds like your distributor went out.
i don't know how you came to the conclusion that no spark means fuel pump went out... sounds like you have a similar problem as in this thread: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=78709 This post has been edited by Hanyo: Mar 31, 2011 - 3:40 PM |

I have never heard my fuel pump buzz and I have had it over 7 years. The only time you hear them buzz is if you upgrade to walbaro fuel pumps. Another wrench to throw into your diagnostics about fuel pumps is: even when the fuel pump is work right that doesn't prove you have fuel in your engine.
So before you even diagnosing anything else . Try starter fluid. This simple test will save you money and time. Don't have starter fluid? You can use brake parks cleaner or Carb cleaner. try that and post your findings. |
