I always like checking to see if anybody has had similar problems before taking the car to a shop...
When driving, right around 3k the engine does not lose power but makes a rpm based drone/whirring noise that is pretty loud when accelerating quickly. The noise is coming from somewhere on the passenger side of the engine bay. Sometimes in 1st gear around 2-3k I hear the same noise off and on too... The car is running smooth but the noise is strange and sounds like some toyota's version of vtec kicking in when im going 40mph or so and accelerate quickly... The car is loud with exhaust and short ram and the sound can still be heard over the engine revving in that range. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help! before sending the car in, check if any of the power steering, alternator, crank, and A/C compressor pulleys have play. you'll probably have to remove the belts to check. it might even be a simple job that you can do yourself.
i just replaced my A/C compressor clutch last night. when i removed the belt, i found out that the pulley was wobbly/loose. it was making an awfully loud noise all winter and i finally got around to replacing it. the engine runs very quiet now. -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
