Is it better to get a UK GT and put a turbo on it?? would it get more bhp then the GT4??

Or buy a GT4

What psi is the GT4 set at??

With turbos is it the bigger the engine the higher you can have the psi?? tongue.gif

6th gen gt4 runs i think between 12 and 14 i think

adding a turbo tou a 3sge will make for some nice power, probably enough to be as fast or faster than a stock gt4.

spend $500 on a gt4 and that will take you a whole lot farther.

plus traction will never be a problem.

I'm with the GT-4 idea. AWD and the motor is already built for turbo. A lot less hassle to upgrade too.

If I lived in UK, this question wouldn't arrise. I also think a GT4 would have already been in my driveway.

Is the 3sge engine turbo ready though? I mean are the internals going to handle much boost or is it the same as the base engine they use for the 3s-gte??

a 3sge has a much high compression ration.

its not built for turbo, but you could put one on and run under 10psi with no problem

problem being that a lot of UK insurers will not cover you if you modify the stock engine in such a way. You'd need to go with a specialist insurer.

I do know that a couple of people have supercharged their ST202's in the UK.

Another QUESTION???

Isn't the Uk GT and GT4 both the same engine???
Just that the GT4 has a turbo.

nigel - depends on if you want a UK GT4 (good ones are as rare as hens teeth) so you might have to get an import.
both will be a 250bhp stock engine. Spending about £500 on a GT4 will get higher power gains than if you spent the same amount on a GT.
If you buy a cheap gt4 you will have problems for ever.. and none will be cheap to fix.
Have a look at www.celica-bits.co.uk - they had a white import GT4 for sale... also look at the uk site (i've posted the address for you a few times..) lots of advice on GT4 purchasing in the UK.

thanks Mate

You see i have a 100bhp nissan and I've always wanted a fast car. Now i'm 21 I can get one. After seeing a celica (CHAN) at the warrington cruise it looks ace. Anyone know him??? He was also at Max Power. I'm suprised hes not a celica member on this fourm.
Any way it will cost me £500 more on insurance so I may go for the GT, I could always add a turbo in the furture.
THANKS NIGEL

the gt4 already has about 50 more hp and mod for mod, a turbo'ed care always gains more power than an NA engine of the same size.

simple mods like intake and exhaust would add a lot more power to a gt4 and make a much better powerband than with the celica GT

the JDM GT4 is about 255+bhp. I have a Curren and a GT4. you just cannot compare them. and the difference is not simply 50 bhp. maybe a UK gt4 spec.
I dont just say that. having the Curren for 4-5 years before i got the GT4, i was bored even when i was driving at its limits. The GT4 is another story.

And by the way, it will cost you much less to get a GT4 than to upgrade. If i am not convicing anyone just visit

http://www.st205.net

Check his story out and you will be convinced.

GT-Four. Plain and simple.

Couple of things. 3sge and 3sgte are not just the same engine with a turbo attached to one. Apart from compression ratios the 3sgte is also a lot stronger internally.

Im pretty much positive that the jdm gt4 was the only one that had the 255hp engine. Export markets got a slightly less powerful, 235hp version(all to do with the fuel i think).

3rd gen 3sgte runs 13psi stock. The stock turbo will quite happily take and extra 5 psi increase.

Um yeah.

The 3rd gen JDM 3sGTE (equiv. to our 6th gen) is actually 225hp rather than 255hp, the 2nd gen being 200 and 1st gen 190. I am doing the 3sGTE swap for my '95 celica. Importing a JDM 3rd gen Gt4 front clip/half cut.

I also find it quite ignorant to be making comment of bolt ons on a GT vs GT4 considering that you cannot put an aftermarket intake on a turbo/FI engine and you have to have a turbo-back exhaust to even get the potential of your engine.. to not lose hp. So how can you even compare the two?

If you want more info on the swap or the engine e-mail me. MotorX007@aol.com. I am not starting the swap until spring (probably spring break) for a lil time to get a few more bucks and to have time aside from school.

Sorry my friend but your info on hp is wrong.

The JDM ST205 is rated at 255-260bhp with high octane petrol.
UK spec ST205 is rated at 240bhp (ECU tuned this way for emmissions purposes)

Good luck on the swap. You made an excellent choice in bringing the whole front of the car. This way you will have a lot less hassle when puting it together and the hood and front bumper are just priceless
