Hey guys, I'm new here. I'm in the market for a sixth gen Celica soon, and since I'm just one ferry-ride away from the UK (I'm from Holland), I'm thinking about importing a GT4.
There's just one thing I really can't seem to adapt to; the GT4's front bumper. I just don't like the hole in the middle. I know it has its purpose, but what I wanna know is this: Does a normal bumper from any 6th gen N/A Celica (facelift or pre facelift) fit on a GT4 without too much hassle, and does it have a significant impact on performance (like airflow)? I hope you guys can help me out! Regards, Michael |

Ive never fitted or seen a stock 202 bumper on a 205, but i would think it would hinder airflow dramatically. And maybe not even fit....Hope you get better confirmation soon...

fit..but you have a hood and bumper gap as the st205 hood is shorter than the non-gt4 st205 model (St202/St204)
non-gt4 bumpers in the middle of the nose are set lower than the gt4 bumper; doesn't have a bulge bump in the middle of the nose to reach the short st205 hood. |

So I need to change the hood aswell then? How about a TRD front (with possible a big FMIC)?

The bumper support bar on the ST205 is raised in the center to match up with the ST205 bumper. You will need to cut and weld a non-st205 support bar on in order to fit a non-ST205 bumper on the car.

Great, thanks for all the quick responses! How about airflow? Does it get hindered much without the vented GT4 bumper/hood?

I'm just not sure how you would go out of your way, to do this besides the looks you want, I think it just wouldn't be worth the money or time to do that. Are you willing to spend somewhere around 2 thousand to do this? It doesn't make sense to spend this kind of money to make it a non-gt4 looking celica. besides sourcing all the right parts, labor, paint, money, time, i just don't understand and at the end of it all, you are reducing air flow. its a lose lose situation. You would be spending to downgrade looks, functionality, and efforts. I mean you may have your preference but it is not economically or logical to do it.

If it'll cost me €2000,- or more I'll definitely reconsider. But I didn't know it would involve that much work, that's why I was looking for some more information. Thanks for your input.

Find a good-condition ST202 bumper and hood in the same body color and save the cost of prep and paint, and then research well into implementing the idea. If I recall correctly, a stock 3S-GTE, meaning top mount and all, will not clear the hood.

Ive never been a fan of the vent on the front of the gt4 it looks somewhat like a nose :\. Couldnt you just patch it up with something and paint it? surely it can't be THAT hard even if you used some sort of bog.

can use fiberglass and make a patch pannel or read the usdm at200/st204 to st205 front end conversion and reverse engineer it best that we can tell you

Welkom mede-Nederlander!!!
The gap in the gt4 bumper definitly serves a purpose. Cooling!!! You need as much cooling as you can get, to keep engine bay temp down. The gap in the bumper cools down the top of the radiator and blows away the hot air from the turbocharger, so the air can escape through the vents in the hood. The lower gap cools down only the lower radiator, the ic radiator and most probably the aircon condensor. Airflow after those 3 radiators is not sufficient enough to force the air to go out. If you drive like my grandma, you won't have any problems with cooling and you can fit a "closed" 6th gen bumper. Otherwise you need as much cooling as you can. yea, the intercooler won't clear as well on stock hood, so the idea is more hassle than fix.
Even if you wanted to, the hood can cost up to 500, the front bumper 150-300 depends on condition, crash bar, frame rails, fogs (if needed), turn signals, time, paint, labor, and shipping will be more money. bumper foam, fasteners, radiator support (regular is lower), (latch adjustment if necessary), i mean to do it legitimately, is a lot of work and money for pretty much no gain from it all. Wow, then it looks like I'm better off getting a cheap 2.0 (3SGE) and play with that.. Reason I asked this, is because I've seen so much nice Celica's, but I found either the TRD front bumper or the SS-III style the best looking. They look so damn clean. I guess I really do care too much about looks.
