The other day I cleaned of my brakes before touching up the paint on the calipers.
I sprayed the entire brake assembly(calipers, and rotors) with brake cleaner, let it sit for a few minutes, then wiped it off. I also washed them a couple hours later with the hose. A few days later I see that my rotors are covered in surface rust, so I took some steel wool, and that took the rust off. The next day or so, the rust i back again. Anyone ever had this problem before? My car is sitting on jackstands outside with no wheels on right now while I wait for my new struts to come. -------------------- -Protection mode, For when your amp tries to blow its load. 1995 Toyota Celica GTS - Daily Driver 1999 Chevy Cavalier - Winter Beater 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback - Dead My Celica! |

Rust on rotors is normal if you wash the car and don't drive it..after your first braking it'll be gone.

Hector: its been a little rainy here, but not very humid.
SupraKid: my rotors are almost all orange within days, That would go away from driving it? Am I just worrying for no reason? haha I just don't want them to get damaged to the point I need new ones. -------------------- -Protection mode, For when your amp tries to blow its load. 1995 Toyota Celica GTS - Daily Driver 1999 Chevy Cavalier - Winter Beater 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback - Dead My Celica! |

Yea the orange is just surface rust, nothing to worry about. Once the pads hit the rotor during braking itll take it right off and be 100%

Alright thanks.
I didn't really think much of it either, but my dad pointed it out and started freaking, saying that its probably the brake cleaner eating my rotors and Is hould call the company and tell them whats happening and all this haha. Just wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks. -------------------- -Protection mode, For when your amp tries to blow its load. 1995 Toyota Celica GTS - Daily Driver 1999 Chevy Cavalier - Winter Beater 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback - Dead My Celica! |

that is very normal, brake cleaner removes anything that will prevent rust. you should see what an iron block does right after getting sand blasted. I had mine blasted and then took it home and pressure washed it. By the time it was dry it was immeadiatly rusting. had to get some paint on that bad boy real quick.

its not a problem, rust is going to be there except for the mating surface where the pads squeese the rotors. once you use teh brakes they clean right up.

more so probably the washed them off with the hose part. If you're super worried then put some plastic shopping bags over them. Like everyone else says, first few times you use the brakes it'll rub right off and in about a days worth of driving everything is normal.
