Haven't been here for a while, been too predisposed with wedding plans, moving interstate and all the rest of it.
I'm finally in a position where I can start some work on the 6G/accumulate some required parts. I recently had it in at my mechanics to get a few things checked over for rego etc and when I got my baby back half of the plastic plugs in the engine bay were ****ed! I totally understand why and I'm not blaming my mechanic - the previous owner ignored all maintenance cries by the Celica and thus had not done ANYTHING maintenance wise in well over 12 months (our guess). Loooong story short, the poor engine has been running hot for quite some time and pretty well baked all the plastic connectors rendering them brittle and impossible to remove without shattering. As far as I'm aware this simply does not happen unless the engine bay gets excessively hot. I've been looking around for somewhere to buy either a new loom or at the very least all the plugs to replace them one by one, but my searches are coming up a little short - the wiring sticky didn't have much useful info for this particular occasion and searching the forum/other forums didn't yield much. I'm in Australia so the loom would be for the 2.2l 5SFE liftback version. I thought I saw a thread on here earlier where someone had made their own loom using high-temp heatshrink (and it looked awesome) but I've lost it. ***EDIT*** Just had a quote $475 complete engine wiring harness delivered and in perfect shape, 1 year warranty... Does this sound steep to anyone? I didn't have any real idea about cost but was guestimating around the $300 mark... This post has been edited by siredmondpotentloins: Jun 20, 2011 - 9:11 AM |

475 for a harness!!!!! hell no unless your swapping in a 3sgte or another engine where you need a custom harness. what i would do is go to junkyard and just pull a whole harness from another car be much easier then making or replacing each messed up end, hell look in the buying/selling forum you might find a member who has a good harness with all plugs for fairly cheap . just word of caution shipping to aus from usa is fairly high priced (probly run 40$ using a flat rate usps box) good luck!

We're pretty used to paying through the nose for shipping from the US to OZ... I don't think it's worth changing out the whole loom unless there is an electrical problem that can't be solved otherwise. Or of course if I was planning on an engine swap It might be worthwhile getting a quote from Toyota for new non-glasslike plugs. 204's are rarely seen in a wreckers with much useful bits left in them (unless you're one of the first guys to see a new wreck! ha!) at least one the several occasions I've gone part-hunting

most of the plugs are identical in most toyotas. just have to take one to compare. Injector plugs are the same some alt plugs too...

of course me saying thats expensive wasnt thinking about dealer pricing lol, but imo it would be less time consuming to just replace engine harness then replace each plug which requires you to remove each and every pin/lable wires and put them back in the correct places, and would be easier with less failure rate imo, just my opinion whatever way you go about it is on you, we all have our own ways of doing things and thats what makes this community so helpfull!
