So orginally the timing belt was too tight, this was due to tensioner being for a second gen, which is not interchangeable. so im debating on using the oem tensioner, looks to be in good shape and once its pressed back in it should be good right? the motor only has 50k miles on it so thoughts?

first off if you send me your email i can send you the st205 manuals.

ok now to the problem. did you reset the tensioner? you will have to remove it and pretty much put it in a vise to get it to go back in, and then put some type of pin or paper clip or something in it to get it to stay so you will have enough slack to get it on. if you do that then you should have plenty of room to move the tensioner pulley to get the belt on unless its just not the right belt.

i couldnt get the files small enough to send in an email so i uploaded them so you can download them. its engine and chassis.

Lol what he said laugh.gif ..i remember my first time, i thought i would be dealing with a conventional tensioner...and spent like an hour trying to figure out it was a hydraulic type that needed to be pressed in...next time after that i just bought a new tensior and pully lol...

make sure you mark the old belt prior to removal. It can be a major pain to put these belts back on in exactly the same spot, and marking the old belt with save you a lot of trouble.

thats only if you take the old belt off and re-use it. a new belt is not going to have marks.

just set your crank at TDC and match the cam gear up with the mark and you will be dead on.

Agreed, set everything to Top Dead Center before putting the belt on and you'll be fine. I don't see why you would put the new belt on exactly like the old one, its a belt.

No everything is set to TDC, old belt was marked, and funny thing is that the new belt comes pre-marked, just tight as hell actually getting it on there, tensioner is new and still has pin in it to hold it in place but still incredibly hard to put the belt on

Found the problem..... the parts guy at toyota is a retard, ordered me the wrong tensioner, gave me one for a second gen. which is about an inch longer and was why i couldnt get it on there, hoping that toyota will take the part back. unless someone on here needs it and i will sell it at cost + shipping
