QUOTE (Uppitycracker @ Dec 14, 2003 - 3:05 PM)
When Im driving I always shift around 2.5rpms, saves gas and, wear and tear. I honestly dont see how 3" piping gets you more power top end or otherwise? With the st engine as is I dont think the stock exhaust would be restrictive period. I may be wrong but I know even people with engines pumping out 200hp only need 2.5".

anything bigger than 2 and 1/4 inch catback on a stock ST causes a loss in power until the very top of 2nd gear

i had my 2.5 inch exhaust on for one day while i was still gathering parts for my turbo setup and low end was non existant.

my exhaust gets loud from 2500rpm to 3000rpm, but only inside the cabin. outside my car isnt loud at all, when not in boost.

while boosting its another story. the turbo's whining and the exhaust gets a little quiter.

the BOV echos on my street(at 8psi, and i rarely hit boost on my street).

next month im going to have a resonator installed to quiet it down as much as possible, i got used to stock exhaust and turbo only sound. my car used to sound 100% stock until i got on it.

wow, 2500rpms?? dont you bog like mad?? my car isnt happy anything less than 3k, must be the clutch/flywheel combo... confused.gif

3 inch piping you probably are actually loosing power all over the powerband on a stock 1.8L

I find when I start getting near 2k my engine will bog but 2.5k-3k is fine. Im just used to my old mx-3 where I could shift at 1.5k if i wanted to but 2.5k was always my shifting point. And I find 2.5K is like the best spot for smooth shifting escpecially with worn syncros.

I really hate hearing the loud mufflers and the muscle cars pass my house; especially, at night when I'm trying to sleep. I have a Greddy Sp exhaust system installed, it makes my car sound like it has 300hps, but it gets annoying. I want to sell it for $250.

Anybody want to buy my greddy sp exhaust system?

well im my celica i have a magnaflow exhaust, 3" piping, and a free flow cat. nautrally my car gets really loud, especially around 2000 to 2500 rpm. i've noticed though that my neighbors give me really mean looks whenever i drive down the street, and i have to drive all the way down the street because i live in the court at the end. has anyone been through the same problems?

I never really got back looks like that because I would try to make as minimal noise as possible driving through my streets. I usually hit neutral. I also try not to rev. I had friends and new people who would do stupid annoying things like that... especially when they would back up. Some of you might know what I'm talk about... reving while backing up... grrr... that annoys the hell out of me.

up here it's like a 2 to 1 tuck to car ratio, and at least half of those have dual exhaust. My neighbor across the street i swear is running straight pipes from the cat back you wanna talk loud!!!! the neighbor kid's gotta crx with a tin can on it he used to rev it alot when he first got it which is understandable but he doesn't anymore. I only get looks when i forget to turn the stereo down before i get to the house, and that's usually from the wife while she's complaining about stuff rattling off the walls.
