Well i figured its time to explain why the celica was sold, and what has happened/will happen. I'd like to thank 6gc.net as a whole, it was an AWESOME place to learn new things, without this site, my 14 year old self may have never gotten into cars. Id like to personally thank MaskedMan, D-man, 808celica, SeverX13, NgoFcukinWay, DEATH, njccmd2002, even the rican. Im sure i missed people, but you know who you are. Its been an awesome 4 years(even though im not leaving) From calling jon to help me replace my wheel stud, to Johnathon helping me diagnose my idle issue, to even 6gc gossip with derrick, you all helped me get my celica to where it was and i couldn't have done with without you all. Thanks guys. /teh ghey

-----------------------------------------------PRE STORY----------------------------------------------

For those of you that don't know I took my celica from this:

To this:

Doing ALL the work you see, paint, exhaust, interior, ect. EVERYTHING over the course of 3 years myself(my brother did shoot the paint however).Anyway, after my first year in college i realized i don't daily drive anywhere as I'm in the dorms, so I really don't need an economical car. With my celica being a ST AND a coupe i was fairly limited as far as performance and looks in my mind. After driving my brothers 97 cobra while the celica was being painted i realized i loved the feel of heavy powerful rwd sports cars(June 2010).Right after this i discovered the mk3 supra, a cheap, and very fast car if you can do the work and maintenance yourself. After looking for one ever since june 10', in may 2011 i had a friend i met through the supraworld offer me a 1987 Toyota supra turbo 5 speed shell with 112k on it for 125$. I immediately jumped on it and picked it up:

I really like this picture, as it shows the sexy moded celica, and a supra under a tarp...waiting..

Had plans to rebuild the car for resale and to use the profit to buy myself a targa supra(i HAD to have a targa). A few weeks later i was browsing and found a guy getting utterly flamed on SupraMania after "his brother took his supra out and blew it up" and then cried because of it, as he had another supra that blew up. The kid was so angry with supras he put everything up for sale, but at normal prices(1k for the stock car, 2k for the moded). After being flamed again in his FS thread he took them down. I Pmed him half joking, being myself, and offered 500$ for both cars with blown engines...Well looky here:

So as of june i owned 3 non running supras and my celica. When i got home for the summer I pieced the 2 engines together(one had a bad head gasket, and one had rod knock) to hopefully make 1 strong engine to put in the blue car. No such luck:
Blue car running with what turned out to be Rod Knock.
At this time i put the blue car up for sale as a roller for 300$, and it sold(new owner STILL hasnt picked it up). In early July i decided to put my celica up for sale. It was very hard to do, as my dad owned it for over 11 years before me, and i learned to drive on it. But this weekend( July 23rd) it sold to a dad and son looking for a good first car for 2700$. In the meantime the white car got scrapped for 300$ and i had around 4 grand to get my red car up and running.

---------------------------------------------Actual build-------------------------------------------

Now enough with the stories, onto my red supra build. The car is a 1989 toyota supra turbo 5 speed targa top with tems.Bought for around $150 as a roller. Car has 24x,xxx on it and a salvaged title. It was involved in a pretty bad rear end accident, but luckily no frame damage.

After the blue and white car money came in I purchased a recently rebuilt 7mgte from the same friend that sold me the blue car, the engine is said to have 10k on a full engine importer rebuild. This weekend, after saying goodbye to the celica, I've kept myself busy and not thinking about my heresy by buying a lot parts(hehe) and getting the new 7m ready to go into my new car. The car will be getting a 5 speed with a ACT stage 3 clutch, a stock exhaust with a 3r muffler( for smog, then ill be going a full straight 3.5" system after smog is gone).
The car:

Parts being painted:

Helicoiled exhaust studs:

Engine slowly going together:

New black dash<3:

5 speed getting ready to go in:

In:

3.5" exhaust:

The plans for the car are to slowly build it the same way i built the celica, almost exactly the same, except this time i have a large chunk of change to play with. Near future plans include:
Tein coilovers
Double din
Some kinda flush wide black rims
Aftermarket FMIC
whaletail wing and new front grille insert
Viper 2 way alarm
Full LED conversion(already ordered)
Dark candy red paint job
Tint
350rwhp as a goal

Future plans(1-2 year +):
A fully built 2jzgte, 700rwhp at high boost

I hope to have the engine in the bay tomorrow night, and having running in 2 days, then i can buff the car and get some good pictures and videos >:). Hopefully the supra will treat me as well as the celica did. As some of you know, letting a celica go is very hard because they are so damn reliable, and have so much character, but just not enough potential in my mind. I will be getting back into the celica world in a few years when I'm out of college and need a Daily driver again, but don't any of you worry, especially you manny, i wont be leaving this site wink.gif.

Sad to see the Celica go but we all grow up and go to better things. You've gotten some really nice deals on these MK3s and I can't wait to see the build of the red targa. Good luck and all that jazz...even though we know you'll be on here all the time. wink.gif

You've done well here, good luck with it all.

Dont be scared of the 7m, you can get good power from them. Some arp bolts screwed down tight (far past the factory torque setting) and you will avoid the BHG issues the later M engines are known for.

MOAR 2JZ NAOW!!!

Just kidding. I'm pretty jealous of your Supra build. I was hoping you'd make a thread. Be sure to keep me updated.

Thanks berto. Yea the front bumper will be getting a nice grille insert and an aftermarket lip. My only real exterior plans are the front bumper, coilovers, whaletail rear wing and a tasteful set of black rims. And paint of course. But that is really all mk3s need IMO to look really good, kinda like bimmers.

Well today went pretty much according to plan, got the exhaust, driveshaft and engine all in place, by this time tomorrow she should be up and running!

I used my spare OEM oil cooler and made a PS cooler. The reason being when the mk3 was ran in a rally group A test the only fluid that was overheated was the PSing.

After 3 days of random BS crap, she is finally running...

Day 1 was composed of just buttoning things up, bolting everything together, ect.
Day 2 was all about trying to fix my coolant leaks and trying to figure out why my starter wasn't engaging. Turned out it was, but I had pulled the plugs, and the engine was so smooth it just sounded like the starter wasn't working at all.
Day 3(today) The previous owner had done a few mods, one including putting direct 12v to the fuel pump, and i had disconnected it, so i was getting no fuel.. Around 5pm I started her up, and she sounded like THIS. Needless to say, i was afraid i was about to go through my 4th 7mgte.Did a comp test, and all cylinders were either 149 or 150, almost perfect smile.gif. Luckily the issue of the whining was the power steering pump being low(from the cooler being filled), and the timing was way off. But after i figured it out, i took the car out for a drive...

From the get go obviously you can feel a power difference, but since i have some massive vacuum leaks, i am losing power at about 3.5k. The braking in this car is INCREDIBLE. The GT brakes on the celica seem like they are off a school bus comparatively. It may be the new proxies, but idk it stops on a DIME. The handling is actually much better than I had though it would be for such a pig. Tomorrow everything should get all buttoned up, put the manual boost controller on and up the boost from 6-9. Then go take her for a REAL drive.

A few questions/concerns
1.Why put all this time and money into a salvaged title car? To me the blue one appeared to be a good choice, or even the white one(favorite color).
2.The muffler doesn't matter for smog as long as you have the catalytic converter. Just do it the way you want it the first time.
3.What power does the 7m put down from the factory?

All in all great choice in moving away from fwd na 4cyl power. I wish I never got into my celica or 4 Honda's I currently have(except for cheap parts and mpg's). I look forward to seeing what you do, and respect that you do everything yourself. I can't stand having other people touch my vehicles the only exception is my father.

Rod knock? 1JZ? Sounds to me like a perfect excuse to go rip some donuts and bounce off the rev limiter until the motor blows.

hahaha i plan to richee..The only thing i care about is the turbo(as i can get some $ for it) and the tranny.. Im gonna be changing the oil and filter tomorrow with hopes it MIGHT cure it. If not it looks like ill be putting the ****ty tires on and going to have some fun smile.gif. I did drive the car about 10 miles to the gas station and she felt pretty good, besides the motor mounts being broken and it leaning every time im above 5k lol. I will still be driving it the 20 miles to nationals tomorrow, but then she will most likely go under the knife..again....

Luckily it seems the knock is not the rods, its a pulley or something. Last night i drove the car to my brothers, which is about 20 miles with some great highway stretches, curves, and stops. I have to say overall the celica was way more comfy to drive. The shifting, the steering, the interior, was just comfier in the celica. They handle about the same with the TEMS engaged fully on the supra(but that makes the ride horrible). Obviously the key difference is the raw power the supra has. Although the responsiveness the celica had was awesome, the supra is obviously leaps and bounds ahead in power. It is def NOT a touger, even with the stock ct26 there is so some serious turbo lag, which means pushing out of corners isn't as easy as it was in the celica(idk maybe i just need to learn to drive better to keep the turbo spooled).

I still have a major vac leak on the intake manifold, and I need to redo my couplers as i have a few leaks, so the ecu is pissed and fights me if I really floor it.hopefully i can get those fixed in a few days, then i can up the boost and start the fun smile.gif. New pics will most likely be up tomorrow, i absolutely LOVE the looks of this car with the targa off, i think i may keep it off all the time when i'm parked at home lol.

Today has been composed of repainting the window trim, and lightly tinting all the exterior lights.

EDIT: The first kill. Took my step dad out for a drive to show him the car, sittin it traffic and a highschool friend in his e46 pulls up, i know him pretty well so we were both just joking around. We left the light quick, the supra sputtered and bogged down bad cause the vac leak and various things, but once it started going god DAMN. The thing just RIPPED past the e46.Wasnt a real kill i guess, but was nice to know the supra has ballz.I think I'm in love
