Hello everyone,
I have had problems with my Evaporation system, and my mechanic said he would need to replace the charcoal canister and the VSV Valve. I have a tech manual that I've been looking through and I've been searching on the web and found a good deal on the canister at toyota parts barn. I found another name for the charcoal canister, which is the vapor canister, and I'm thinking that the VSV Valve migh have another name. Or is the VSV valve included in the vapor canister? |

Bi-metal vacuum switching valve (BVSV) isn\'t part of the charcoal canister -- if it\'s the one for the evaporation system, it\'s connected to the charcoal canister by a vacuum line but is actually screwed into the same portion of the head as the water temperature sensor.
90925‑05068 -- $53 from 1sttoyotaparts.com It\'s a blue-green plastic piece with two vacuum lines attached to it. It\'s the one on the right side of this photo (not the circled item). ![]() Easy to test, I used a drink box straw. A) Cool the BVSV to below 35°C (95°F) with cool water. Blow air into the top port and check that the BVSV is closed. B) Heat the BVSV to above 54°C (129°F) with hot water (I placed it upright in a pot with the water up to the hex head). Blow air into the port and check that the BVSV is open. Replace if it fails, or re-install if it passes. Use a mid-strength threadlocker to seal it, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent. yeah its the one on the right with teh 2 hoses, you cant really see both of them cause they are on top of each other. do the above test to see if its working, you really dont need to change the charcoal canister that will be $$$

My mechanic said I needed to get both replaced though. Is it possible that the valve malfunctioning could do damage to the vapor canister? This car is at 145,000 miles. |

Not really, the charcoal canister is just a filter in a can. Activated charcoal, actually.
The canister is cleaned by firing 294 kPa (3 kgf/cm2, 43 psi) of compressed air into port A (port on the same side as the bracket) while holding port B closed. The air will come out the bottom of the canister, so you'll want it disconnected from the system. Testing is pretty simple: blow in port A and air should flow out of the other ports. Blow into port B and it should not. Unless the canister is cracked or activated charcoal comes out the ports when you're blowing into them, it's fine. Ask your mechanic what's actually wrong with it. |

I also have tried finding it with your pic but I still don't see it,. I've taken apart some components like the air box and cruise control actuater to put in a cai and I still don't see it please help
