was 6 gen ur first choice of car?
well for me i always wanted a rx-7 for performance and looks. but then my parents didnt want to spend too much on a car so i got my st for around 4g. now i really like the celica. although its weak, i like the styling and how its a more practical car than the rx-7. it is more roomy and i just like having friends in my car. but then again i would take the rx-7 anyday. hmm well heres my list in order of the cars i wanted: rx-7- rare supra-so expensive celica 6g- cheap eclipse (97-99)- i think the car loks hott, but the engine sux. ohwell |

In the cars I was looking at when I was looking for a new car, the sixth generation Celica was my first choice, by far. Other cars I was looking at included a MKIII Supra, first generation Eclipse GSX, third generation Acura Integra GSR, a fifth generation Celica, and a couple other cars before I found a sixth generation Celica.

I've owned 4 cars and 1 truck/suv...
My first car was a 87 RX-7 GXL... the good ole 13b. Nice drift car... but started crappin all over itself and started losing compression, due to bad seals in the rotors and a bad ECU. Left for dead, but recently sold to my brother-in-law and is currently under re-building. Second was an 86 toyota 4 runner. Fully built 22RE, then 22RTE. The 22RE had TRD street legal performance cams, Intake, header, exhaust, amoungst other little stuff. That motor was swapped out for a 22RTE, which blew a head gasket and froze up on me. The runner was fully built for off-roading. Internal and ext roll cages, front solid axle conversion, 8 inch suspension lift in the front, 10 in the rear, 2 inch body lift, custom front and rear low-profile bumpers, 38 in mud terrains, and boggers, and all terrain street tires, front and rear detroit lockers, and some other stuff... sold for a more practical car. Third car, a 95 race-prepped celica ST. Nearly fully built 7afe... built as a wannabe project for autoX... but blew the motor and crashed the car. Fourth car, another 95 Celica ST... current car and daily driver. Refer to profile for mods. Fifth car, 96 Civic hatchback... currently pre-planning for B18 motor swap and possible LS-VTEC conversion. Currently an ugly green beater with 17in Koing rims and ALTEZZA's!!! (they came with the car)... My original WANTS: MKIV Supra TT 6Spd ST185 Blk on Red on Gry with >70K miles SW20 Blk on Blk or Red on Blk with >70k miles 3rd Gen Teg GSR or Type-R Blk or Red on Blk for the GSR and could care less for the Type-R AE86 hatchback (still looking) S13 or S14 Blk on Blk (could care less about the motor... wanted to do Silvia SR20DET Conversion) And there are others... I'm sure This post has been edited by Kwanza: Dec 15, 2003 - 4:06 AM |

no the celica was not even a car i was considering... it kinda just happened... i went in to the toyota dealership my uncle works at just to get a good used car to drive to and from school and work .. cause the eninge on my sunfire died... well fist car i looked at was a TRD solara.. but they wanted way to much for it 22 something and it was used...
2nd car I looked at was four mustange it was a 98 and had insane engine mods... but my mom and uncle talked me out of it cause the insurence would have been way to much for me.... 3rd car i looked at was a almost new 7gc with only 400 miles on it.. the owner couldn't pay the car note but again they wanted too much for it and this was with they discount my uncle was going to get me.. 4th car i look at was a V6 couger damn i loved the way that car drove..power handling full loaded.... but they wanted to much for that car also.... And parked right next to that was a black coupe looked nice low miles, dove nice... but i did mention to my uncle it didn't have never half the power of the other cars... he said that can be fixed.. and the price was just right for me... -------------------- |

I always wanted a MR2 or GT-FOUR. couldn't get the 2 because I go to school in snow country and its my only car. couldn't afford the 5G All-Trac because of insurance and total cost. I also wanted a Miata, but my parents said it was too small. so I guess I kinda settled for a 6G, but considering the 6G GT-FOUR was my favorite car when I lived in Japan I don't think of it that way

I had never seen a 6th gen before i bought mine....my dad and i drove a 5th gen GT a few weeks before, but the tranny was crap....plus it didnt have many features and it was going on 200k miles. Then my dad saw the 6th gen for sale at an old friends house and thought it was a Supra, and i loved supras like i do now, so he called my cell phone and told me about it. That afternoon we realized that it was a celica and i couldnt believe how awesome it was...all options, handled and shifted like a dream, so i bought it.
Only other cars i almost bought before that was a red '92 VW Jetta 5spd with 15k miles and was in showroom condition. The guy who owned it loved the thing and was obsessive about keeping it in great condition. And before that, i found an auto 92 Jetta that had 135k miles, but it had some engine problems that would have haunted me had i not taken it to the mechanic. i used to love VW cuz my parents owned one and i thought it was amazing until i drove and owned a Celica. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

haha the 6gc was a natural progression in my life. I started out with a 66 el camino with a built 350 (fast but like 9mpg on a high schooler's budget), then moved on to the offroad scene with a 80 jeep cj-5 (slow but good for offroad and beach cruisin), finally went with the 6gc cuz they look beautiful, have decent daily driver power, and get waaaay better gas mileage than my el camino.

i originally wanted a MK2 MR2 turbo... but in highschool it wasnt practical and was too expensive, and i didnt have a winter car. so i got the celica and fell in love with it. by sr year in highschool, i was sick of it being so slow, didnt have the time to put it under for an engine swap, or the money. price of the mr2 dropped pretty drastically lately, so bam, i picked up my affordable dream car

the car i originally wanted was a 3000gt, then an eclipse, and then the 6GC
im glad i didnt get my first two choices. mainly because i would have gotten the non turbo versions, which would have sucked, and the 3kgt and eclipse arent the best in the reliability category. i love my 6gc and i plan to keep it as long as possible. in Jan. im getting it dyno tuned once i install the FMIC and be done with it. then i save up for a second car, a project car, something factory turbo and not fwd. once i do, i will probably sell most of the turbo stuff off of my ST, keeping only what could be used on my next car. the ST would become the daily driver. then i could sell my mazda for some extra funding(93 protege, i love that car, cuz its there when i cant drive my car!!!). -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

I wanted either a 3rd gen RX-7 or a 4th gen Supra. Although the Celica was on my mind(having just blew the 22RE in my 85).
After doing some research I decided that the RX-7 was too much of a pain to work on(fairly simple design, but no shops to bring it to while I was learning about it). The Supra is still what I want, but was too expensive at the time. I found the 6th gen and decided I liked it enough to drive untill I got it paid down enough to trade in for a Supra. Unfortunately the FnF movie ruined that for me. About a month after that movie came out the price of MkIV Supras doubled. At that point I gave up on the Supra and decided to keep the Celica. My next car will probably be a 3rd gen RX-7. I've had time to learn about rotary engines(and had the chance to work on my brother in laws 93 R1). As much as I love the Celica, it's still FWD. I miss RWD so badly(85 and before were RWD). |

My first choice was a Supra, but the insurance would be too high.
Next was a 3000GT, same problem. Then I chose this year Celica because it was the closest thing that resembled a Supra. |

I only wanted my Celica because it was cool looking. It wasn't that fast and I knew it. This past year I used inheritance money as well as some of my own to buy my 87 RX7 and 87 Supra. Both turbo.
I guess the car I really wanted though was a 95-99 eclipse gst or gsx. Then it went to older cars, like a 72 Vette. I finally chose the Celica because it was nice, and all the options possible for fairly cheap. -------------------- 95 Toyota Celica GT

Funny, I guess I am the only one so far that was on a mission to get a 6gc in the first place. The first car I bought when i got my license was a new 2001 ford focus zx3 hatch in yellow. it was loaded and it was really afoordable i thought, so i got it. BIGGEST MISTAKE ever. The car drove really nice, handeled really good for a car in that class, all that, but it was bulit like trash... Needless to say in the 47,000 miles I put on that car, the emissions system had somthing go wrong with it 4 times, the trassmission broke at 30,000, and the battery exploded at 14,000... And thats just the "big" stuff I had happen, not counting loose mirrors, cheap trim breaking, stuff like that... I was looking for a 6gc for almost a year when I found the one I have- I have driven a lot that were either (A) abused, or (B) too expensive. Then I found mine, it was the only GT coupe I had ever seen up to that point. It was stick and since I never touched one before, I learned how to drive one in the celica. Needless to say, in 45 min. I was out on the road driving it, and I went back the next day and bought it. It was a 1 owner driven by a 40 year old single woman from Iowa, all mantinence records, and in flawless shape for a 95. She even had the dealer sticker in the glovebox. She traded it in for an RX-8... but yeah it was the once in a lifetime find, I think, and I dont regret selling my Focus for it AT ALL. Only thing I miss about my focus was its sunroof, haha...

I originally wanted a prelude or a integra, got the 6gc because it was reasonably priced and the insurance was much cheaper than the other 2 cars.

I originally wanted a '99 Mitsu Galant, dunno why either.. I just liked the way it looked lol. Then started checking out older 240sx's, and Integra's.. my dad saw me searching through car sites everyday, and was like "why not check out the older Celica's, it's a cool looking car and lasts forever", so I did.. and the rest is history.
