Well, after a while of putting it off, I finally have some spare cash to change out the fluid.

According to some local shop's I've been calling, some of them do full flushes w/o cleaning the pan or changing the filter, some wouldn't even recommend a flush at all but instead cleaning the pan, new filter and new fluid, letting it run, then doing it again.

What would be the best way to make sure my car is safe? Should I go, new filter new fluid and clean pan? Or should I go flush and hope that any gunk just goes away? All the prices seem to be around the same ($110 - $150~) so I'm just looking for the best option for my car. Any thoughts?

drain-clean pan-clean filter-refill tranny oil. the filter is actually a fine stainless mesh, no need to replace it unless its broken. some tranny models however does have throw away filters, but i don't think it is the case with celi tranny.

at least this is how i do it with my cars with a/t tranny.

now if you have a tranny dialysis machine that would be perfect.

nice to see this thread, i was about to start one along this line of questions...

but i do have a question not listed here yet.. are there, or is there anyone here that has had expirience with high(er) performance ATF? sorta like redline, motul, royal purple performance MT fluids?
in the process of a motor swap (same motor type, just replacement) and the auto is going to get a minor overhaul. the car would see regular auto-x events and boost in the near future...
recomendation? tips? any fluid types that you all have had some bad expierience with and should be avoided?

there was another thread where people were praising synchromesh as it got rid of their shifting problems and made shifts feel a lot smoother. i'm using synchromesh btw.

thanx azain.. but thats for MT right? yeah ive had alot of honda friends of mine LOVE that syncromesh (by redline right) but i was refering to an AT, specificly the A245E (out of the ST)..

i have done some digging around, and will be giving Royal Purple's Max ATF a try. which i just found for just under $10.00 a quart (need 8) and thats alot cheaper than advanced ($13.00 on special $14.00 regular price) depending on what the shipping is from APtuning (hope its not much) could still make a big diffrence in total cost..

the royal purple stuff has never failed me yet and you can actualy tell when its in your car, all of there products are on the pricey side but IMO (thus far) you get what you pay for. this will be my first try at the Max ATF so i hope the results are as good as the oil.

i will be turboing that car asap, and i know OOBE has said that he never had issues with his auto.. but i would still like to be on the safe side.. i figure a top notch fluid, and a good trans cooler (w/ a t-stat fan for added securety) should last me MANY miles of harder abuse on the trans from running auto-x and later on down the road with a turbo.. as soon as i can i will post results and total cost.. may be a few weeks though.

Just got off the phone w/ Royal Purple tech support.... according to the tech, the Max ATF's broad operating range is 100*-to-220*, where 100* is the point were the fluid is warm enough to do its job and not be slow, and the 220* mark is where all of the heavy tow truckers work to keep there temps under, so he was using that as a reference.. he said that it was hard to say since the formulation for the fluid is made to be durable and help reduce heat and so its viscosity breakdown point is most likely a good bit higher than that... but.. that leads to optimum operating temp should be in the where abouts of 150*-160*.. posting this for anyone looking to do a proper setup with a temp-tripped, relayed fan across there trans coolers running Max ATF in there trans. or even if your not, but have a gage for it..

I'll post more progress once i get more done.
