Just got my cams (bought a stock set from Muggs waaaaay back and then sent them to Colt Cams), they look awesome and can't wait to get them my Celica! These are just their mild performance set. Geoff said It'd be a kick in the a$$ around 3K.

Yeah your right, I got to dyno my car now! That's just a matter of a safc and a wideband 02 sensor right? I don't need anything else in there or do I got to run some sort of piggy back?

wait a min, they gave you a .015 shim to put under the stock shim? I dont know about anyone else but i see that as a HUGE PROBLEM!!!! 2 shims under the cam is just asking for the top one to spit out. I highly recommend that you DO NOT use 2 shims!!! do it right and either upgrade to 1ZZ buckets or get the right size shim in there.

I spoke with Geoff about those "helper" shims a couple of diffrent times. He assured me they wouldn't cause the shims to spit out, that he's been doing them that way a lonnnnng time..if i haddnt got a great deal on the webcams i ran in the 5sfte, i was getting the colt cams, with geoff custom grinding me a set of staggered cams, with the helper shims.
Besides, not like your spinning 9k rpm with a 5sfe anyway. The reason for them is that toyota don't make a shim thick enough to make up the diffrence. I wouldnt bother with a shimless bucket conversion on a 5s head, kinda pointless with it never seeing above 6.2k rpm, IMO. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

First, just wanted to say A BIG THANKS to Presure2 for installing my Colt Cams into my '96 GT!! Excellent, EXCELLENT work and he even painted up my valve cover real nice too! I also want to say THANKS to fellow members Batman722 and Hurley97 who helped Manny out on my car as well and are clearly good people!
After the install, I had a nice 102 mile ride home with the new cams in and it was definitely a blast drive! It's a solid gain in mid - top end and was just fun reaching those upper rpms and getting to those speeds a bit faster! The car ran smooth and strong as ever all the way home and Presure2 even got rid of a very annoying high pitch whine somehow that I've had for months, though I didn't realize that until after I was already on my way home. Next will be a tuner and then the dyno to set the A/F properly (again thanks to Manny). If you are just staying with the 5sfe, then Colt Cams are a must!! Dyno specs? Not yet, I got to get a safc now and then I'll get it to the dyno prolly in about 2 weeks or less even. I'm located in Southern NH but I had the work done in Fall River, MA.

ok so, here are some pics i had zac take for me with my phone during the install.
a pic of his engine bay, once i got the valve cover off. his motor had recently been rebuilt, and the valvetrain looks just as it should, nice and clean: his mechanic had "painted" the valve cover, but it was a pretty crappy job: exhaust cam out: before i pull the cams, i check all the existing clearances between the cam/shims, and note them all, and keep everything in order on a sheet of cardboard or in this case, masking paper..lol here is what a stock bucket and shim combo look like out of the head: here is a pic with the "helper shim" that geoff sent with the cams installed. the paperwork he sent showed that they took off between .015-.020" off each cam lobe, so the helper shims are each .015". the helper shims were a VERY tight fit in the buckets, i actually had to sand a hair off each one around the outside to get them to pop into each bucket smoothly without binding and bending them. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

once i did that, i installed the cams, and went about rechecking clearances.
with all the helper shims installed, i only had to replace one shim! thats great, saved me alot of time, and saved zac a bunch of money. and, unlike the webcams, the shim i did have to replace was a normal sized shim, that i actually happen to have left over from one of my old heads. (when dustin did his cams, it required alot of the larger sized shims that need to be special ordered thru toyota.) with all the shim clearances in check, it was just a matter of buttoning things back up, and installing the freshly painted valve cover. i painted it with a silver metallic basecoat, then some titanium silver hightemp paint over that (the silver metallic was just to get the valve cover looking all one color, the titanium stuff is very see thru, so the silver gave me a nice even color to start with) and a couple random pics, one of the markings colt cams does to identify the modified cams: and a old vs new pic of the cams: fun, AND exciting, both at the same time! hopfully zac will be able to pick up a SAFCII here in the next couple of weeks, and he'll come down so i can install it for him, and take it over to the dyno and tune it for him, to maximize the gains from them, and clean up his a/f ratio some. enjoy the cams zac, now that your back home and driving the roads your used to driving, make sure to do a report on the diffrences you feel! cant wait to get it on the dyno and see what that power curve looks like VS a stock 5s! -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Awesome picture post Manny! I definitely feel more power even throughout the power band, it's hard to explain but it just feels like it's ready to GO!! I also really like the additional power in the upper rpms past 5K, the power never drops...at all! It's definitely no where near as powerful as your 3sgte set up and not even as powerful as Dustin's Beams but for me, this has been the best performance upgrade I've gotten so far hands down and WAAAAY more rewarding vs the header/exhaust set up I had done.

Well, Manny is 102 miles from me and I drove down averaging about 70 mph all the way down. I used up about 1/4 tank of fuel to get there. All the way back, I was doing 'at least' the same speed and parked my car at home just over the 1/2 indicator mark. I am sure right now I am probably losing mileage but I am also sure that'll clean up with the safc install and tune.

You'll have to spend about $40 to ship your cams to Geoff but the cost is only $435, which includes the helper shims and return shipping back to you. DEFINITELY worth the money.
