Hey guys, I am waiting on the surewinproducts on ebay to restock their header (unless anyone knows for certain another seller that bolts up without hassle and will accommodate both my o2 sensors) and while doing this I have been reading some stuff about headers in general and on this site. I see a lot of people talking about port and polish, I looked it up and got a general idea of what exactly it is, but I am confused as to how you actually go about doing this, do you have to have this done at a machine shop? Do they need the header, or the motor? Is it expensive, is it worth the money, etc, etc. Thank you for any information you can give me.

I ported n polished my head while it was out since I was rebuilding my engine.you gotta know what your doing tho. If you get it done at a shop it alol run you some big bucks. I did it myself. I just bought some carbide burrs on ebay to cut away metal, and some sanding drums to smooth everything down.DONT PORT TOO MUCH BECAUSE YOU MIGHT BUST THE WATER JACKETS.
youtube it too. Hope it helps. |

P&P normally you dont go any bigger then the gasket. intake gets left some what ruff so the air can "tumble" through to induce/help with mixture of the A/F. exhaust you can go to town on the polishing the faster it goes out the better.

Ya, reading those threads it looks like this would have to be professionally done (in my case) and it looks pretty expensive. Thanks for all the information guys

I noticed a definite difference since I had my head ported and polised (had it done to the max too) and with a header install (surewin) along with a hi-flow exhaust. I did have to relocate the 2nd O2 sensor behind the cat though cause the header kept throwing a code. Did that months ago and still no check engine since
![]() You def notice top end increase but loss in lower end (which does disappoint). The increase in top end though is pretty nice. Plus, I think the machine work was roughly $200 for the P&P. This post has been edited by 6G96GT: Aug 1, 2011 - 7:03 PM |
