I know this is an old question no offense to anyone, is upgrading 3sge 3rd gen worth it, i mean how many hp would you get for it, cams piggibacks for how many hp? the costs to upgrade will just amount to a 3sgte, or just leave it stock, my engine is out and im just thinking if its worth to up grade it

Not too many people have this engine that are on this site, so it doesn't come up too often.
Firstly I suggest a read in the sticky threads, the ACIS/BEAMS Discussion thread and the link/guide on how to modify the 3rd 3S-GE imo I think upgrading the 3rd gen 3sge is worth it, if you've done your research, know your goals & what to expect/not expect. Thats a very open question about how much hp to expect from cams & a piggyback, as there are a wide variety of cam profiles that suits the 3sge/gte. Also what features/control the piggyback has and then the quality of the tune. However, you make close to about 110kw@ wheels factory, I would think it would be somewhere in the 125kw - 145kw range, depending on the above the decision is up to you which route you go down, turbo or NA. -------------------- |

hi. Which generation is your 3sge? I had a 3sge on my 1997 rav4, i had 177hp on it, great engine!!! But so sad i was a bit too young and not mature enough to modify it correctly to achieve higher performance. But in my opinion, ts an engine which can go up to 220hp if you do it right. Eventually it can go up to 280hp if you install a nitrous oxide kit with it:) But its very solid and if u get the beams 3sge, u can go even further.
In my opinion, the modifications you can do to achieve good powers are: 1- lighten it ...(ultra LIGHT FLYWHEEL, LIGHWEIGHT PULLEYS ETC...) 2-GET A GOOD CLUTCH KIT 3-forged pistons and rods (CP pistons and Carillo Rods is a good combo coz they are light in weight). 4-high performance fuel pump 5-bigger injectors 6-Cold air intake 7-Stand alone ECU 8-upgraded cams 9-high flow fuel filter 10-better spark plugs and wires 11-new fpr 12-New manifold + downpipe 13-2" exhaust (decat) 14-Nitrous KIt (Zex in my opinion would b a good choice) |
