ebay coilivers on stock stuts? Options

im thinking about buying a cheap set of ebay coilovers to lower my celica till I can afford a good set up
has anyone done this I just would lime to know if it'll work

Dont do it bro, u will blow ur struts with them and every bumped u hit feels twice as hard. Ur struts are made to be a certain heigth. The moment u put the cheap coilovees on and set ur car down the struts basically blow. U can use the spring but buy struts that are meant to be lowered and if ur gonna go that route u might as well just wait, save, and buy a kit. It will benefit u in the long run.

im figuring this will get the same response but what about the lowering that are made like the stock spring but will give you like a 2 inch drop those any good

I had s feeling it would blow my struts because I did the same thing on my old civic so I could lay with the ride hight till I could afford the actual kit

Thanks bro, u can go with a lowering spring but either way ur gonna have to change out the sturts regardless. Im drivin a sebring right now that I bought from an old friend. He put lowering springs on but didnt change out the struts now Im living with the results. Every little bump feels like Im driving 20mph over a speed bump cuz the struts are wrong(factory) and blown.

KYB gr-2s (warrantied up to a 2 inch drop.) and tien s tech springs.
Give you about a 1.9"drop in the front 1.5" in the rear I believe.
Check my profile for pics thats what I'm running.
But if you're planning to get coilovers, and just want to drop it while you wait, I'd honestly say wait and get coilovers.
Springs don't add a whole lot for performance, they're more for looks.
If you're looking for both get coilovers.
You can get a decent set of coilovers for a couple hundred bucks more than a spring/strut set up.

S techs are about 200 plus shipping on ebay, and gr-2s are about 400 plus shipping on ebay as well.
You can probably get a decent set of coilovers like bc racing, megan, or ksport for about 800 to 1000.

If I would have known this at the time, I probably would have went with coilovers.

Depending on your road conditions and the shape of your stock struts (assumin they are still stock) You could last approximately 6 to 8 months lowered on s techs and stock struts.

I rode on my stechs on stock struts for quite a while.
They were clunckin a bit but the ride was the same as when I lowered it, and there wasn't much difference when i put new struts in so they couldn't have been that blown yet.

I'm not saying I would recommend it, or that your struts will last this long lowered, but thats how it was for me.

Sorry, not true. Your S-Techs are known to be on the soft side, whereas I think Megan makes one of the stiffest spring kits for our Celica. I have an Eibach Sportline setup and they're slightly softer than the Megan springs, but still provide a considerable improvement in performance, without doubt.

Kurt, the cheapest safe route is a GR-2 strut setup with the spring of your choice. Several options:

Megan - 2" drop
Eibach Sportline/TRD springs - 1.5"
Intrax - 1.8"
Eibach Pro-kit - 1"

And whatever else you happen to find. Keep in mind that additional parts may be needed in accordance to condition of your existing suspension components, i.e. strut mounts, strut boots, sway bar end links.

Dont rush to buy what u want, just save the money til u can afford it. If u want a large drop and arent to concerned about smoothness and comfort go with coilovers. If a smooth ride is more ur thing go with lowering springs. Each type of suspension offers something different and have their pro amd cons.

It all about how low you wanna go, and if you need to adjust your ride height at any time. I personally like to sometimes have the car SLAMMED to look nice, but sacrificing being able to drive like a normal person. But at other times be able to go 4x4 to go on a rough road or something. If you dont care and all you do is one type of driving then springs/struts are for you. S/S combo will have a better ride than most coilover systems as well.


The only time id recommend ebay coilovers to anyone is if their stock suspension is already blown out.

im just use to honda prices lol so I wasn't for sure if spending under 800 was an option
im looking to do this around winter time since she will be parked most of it
so looks like I need to start saving now
is a used setup off of here a good idea/option

over the winter I want to basically slam her and freshing up my brakes
an im debating on selling my rims
the roads where I live are good my last car was dropped 4" (blue civic in the pics with my celica)

should I stick with the rims or go back to stocks car seems to look good eather way

Im useing a set of used Tanabe sustic pro coilovers I bought when I was in Japan for $300. Just being curious one day checked out their retail price at $1500. Deff got a good deal on mine n they r still on the car today. Honestly, anyone on here could tell u wut looks good and wut doesnt but by thw end of it all, it all comes down to ur personal preference bro. Im a body kit crack head personally, lol. But most people arent u know. Good luck with the build I hope to see more.
