Antenna Options? Options

Hey guys, kinda new around here. Have a 94 celica gt that I just picked up for a work car. It's in pretty good shape, but the motorized antenna looks to be snapped off inside. I can hear the little motor running when I turn the radio on and off, but when you look down in the opening you can only see the base of it and it looks to be sheard off.

Even though its just a work car, it kinda stinks not having any reception to listen to the radio. Was going to replace it with the orginal parts, but not having much luck finding one. (saw one on ebay that I think would fit, but it was specific)

Anyway, if I just pick up a cheap one, is there much to changing it out? Seems like it could be one of those PITA things to get to. I'm going to be changing the rear struts out this week, if I take the rear drivers side panel off in the trunk can I get to the antenna from there?

Any specific type of antenna I need to look for? Anybody know a good place to pick the orginal motorized one up? Do the ones from the Gen 5 celicas work also?

It's pretty simple to take off. Just unscrew a few things and unplug a few wires. You can buy one at autozone or advanced for cheap. I deleted mine after it kept leaking and created a huge hole in my quarter panel.

That would work, I see those short antennas on ebay for like 8 bux, but there isn't any part of the orginal antenna to save.

What I was afraid of was taking out the old antenna with the big motor under it and trying to find something to screw into the base of it. I figure that the base of the antenna is part of the motor, so if I removal all of it, i'm going to end up with a hole in the top of my quarter panel and nothing to screw an antenna into. Normal antennas that aren't motorized just have a simple mounting screw at the base of the unit that you can just unscrew the antenna and screw another one into it. Is this the same setup? The only thing that I saw at autozone was the antenna part itself that screws into the base, maybe I missed the ones that come with a base to wire up.

Being that my motor still works, is it possible to just replace the telescoping antenna with another one? Or would I have to buy the whole unit as a whole?

Whoa, after typing motorized antenna a few times in the post above I threw that into google and came across a ton of info and shopping stuff.

I found one for 24 bux so I think I'll just go that route!

Toyota's motorized antennas are two parts -- antenna mast, and motor. The mast screws into the motor. The mast is a fairly cheap part, maybe $30. Simple enough to deal with as well, unscrew the mount from the outside (silver ring), then remove the antenna and motor assembly from the inside. Swap masts, reinstall.

The sticky is great, but I did it very welll where you dont have to worry about to much sloppy custom work. I went to a junkyard, took the whole antenna assembly from a 7 gen celica and I took out the whole silly mast and relay attached to the trunk on my 6gen. I used the original rubber parts from the 6gen celica antenna to fit it in the hole and had to bend the bracket from the 7gen celica to mount it to the chasis. The 7gen already has that screw-on antenna, so then I just bought an oem s2000 antenna. It's been great ever since and I think that's the way to go to make it most proffesional.

the autozone ones are just the mast and wires. it's a non motorized setup that just goes right in the whole. it worked fine for me.

where did/how did you hide it i would like to do something like that if it gets good reception and leave the stubby little antenna i got on just for looks. any pics of it installed (i know its hidden lol but i think you know what i mean)

here you go, did a quick intall and just ran the wire by the side, not very hidden but will make it better. Then just grounded it to a bolt right where the antenna is mounted, its behind the long plastic trim and the power wire to the old power antenna jack and the antenna wire itself was just plugged into the wire going out.
