hey guys. My ST206 has stickers on the real windshield that say super- strut suspension while my GT4 ST205 does not. As i checked out many other Celicas i was wondering whether its just a sticker issue or if really there are two suspension systems. If so, what are their differences?

There really are 2 different systems but I've never seen any detailed pics of the super strut system so that about all the info I can offer. I do know that a lot of the rally teams used to swap out the superstrut in favor of the lighter and more durable mcpherson struts. The superstrut however. might be better on tarmac.

I did a bit of searching around the web for you, but I am afraid I don't have a lot to show for it...

From a Toyota Club page:
QUOTE

*  Super Strut - A multi-link strut used on some AE101 and all AE111 and Celica ST205.  The system improved cornering stability and turn-in response but made them real headache for alignment shops.

From some rally stuff somewhere:
QUOTE

Toyota Celica GT-4 ST205

A unique shaped suspension, called "Super Strut" was applied to the front suspension. The strut was specially made to compensate the tyre's camber angle, helping reduce it to as close to zero as possible.

From an afficianodo's page:
QUOTE

Part of the secret is Toyota's ''Super Strut'' front-strut geometry, designed to limit camber changes and to keep the front wheels in optimum contact with the road.

I also found a TRD site that noted that they were 2 different suspensions, but I can't paste the table into this board...

It appears that the Super Strut suspension was an option on the ST205 GT-4, but I found nothing to indicate whether or not it was standard, or even the specific differences.

Anyway, I was curious and thought I would dig. I am still learning about Celicas, so it was good fun. I hope it is of some help.

Mark

http://gtfour.supras.org.nz/superstrut.htm

I've spoken to Richard before and he told me that the McPherson strut setup is actually better than the SS setup. Apparently, the SS setup caused problems for rally teams that they reverted back to the McPhersons.

This is also part of the reason why I decided not to use the SS setup that came with my clip.
