I bought my brand-new 99 Celica convertible at the tail end of its model year. It's the very best car I've ever owned, hands down. Loads of fun, too.

It took quite a while for the actual delivery. The dealer told me about ASC, the third-party company that actually turns ordinary cars into convertibles. Yadda, yadda, yadda -- and eventually he tells me "well, ASC sort of ran out of conversion parts -- after all, it's the last Celica convertible". Yeah, right.

I've lived with this snippet of conversation for 12 years.

Half of me says "Hey, don't fool yourself! What are the odds? Just be happy that it might be the very last one. Why invite disappointment?".

The other half of me says "Go ahead and do the research. Wouldn't it be waaaaaay cool if it really was the last one, and you could prove it?".

Today, Tuesday, December 6, 2011, I made my decision. I want to know for sure, one way or the other.

So -- can anyone out there tell me, authoritatively, whether my 99 Celica convertible with ASC sticker number 2312 is truly the very last one manufactured?

THat would be very very cool if it indeed was the last one made. You could probably easily verify it through ASC if you wanted.

IMO it is just about to have your VIN, run it through EPC and see if it is made in August 1999. If so it is definitely one of the last... than just raise last number of your VIN (make it +1) and run through VIN again.

a) if VIN is valid (details displayed in EPC) = sorry your's is not the last
b) if VIN is not valid = congrats, you are the winner smile.gif

The Vin number of my 1999 black convertible ends in 2510. Does that mean my black beauty (black on black on black) was the 22nd from the last convertible made in 1999? The last one had an ASC number of 2510. Does that coincide with the VIN number digits? Who else on the forum has close 1999 convertible VIN numbers?

Apparently there is no correlation between the ASC number and the VIN number.

The VIN number on my '99 convertible ends in 2709. The ASC number is 0355, and the conversion was done in November 1998.

Any progress on your vibration issue? After thinking about your situation, must be that the top changes the airflow enough to affect (lift or pressure) the dynamics of the source problem since no other verts have reported similar traits. Wish you the best of luck on this one and keep us posted if you solve it.

Also, regarding conversion numbers - my 1999 vert similar to yours: Last four digits of Vin is 2510, ASC number is 0477 converted in November of 1998.

Refer to my latest posts in that thread. IMHO the only other possibility might have been from overinflated tire pressures. Not all tires respond well to over-inflation and can demonstrate weird effects under certain circumstances.
