didnt do much research due to time honestly>
my brother and i wanted a car for daily use, pretty much for him to go to work so we saw an mr2 for sale for 3500 91 mr2, 5sfe manual. with 120K miles. question is simple. how much different is it from the celi? like i know same engine, mid engine rwd. but other than that, is it harder to work on for simple little things that are common with 5s and are mods like exhaust, header intake harder to install? good buy or should we settle for something different in the same price range. we just need a beater -------------------- For Sale:OEM tail lights - make offer

if you want something to compare it to, go over to mr2oc and check out their for sale section. I'm sure you can start to price compare from over there based on its condition.

Celica is a little more practical
MR2 is more refined from the factory If all you need is a "beater", then I'd say Celica. I've never worked on an MR2 before, but from what I've heard, they aren't too much more difficult to work with. -------------------- |

It's a b*tch to work on. Seriously. EVERYTHING requires you to be bent over the side of the car, which is a pain in the neck - literally. If you need to do any motor work you'll need to drop the subframe and remove the motor, which isn't too bad once you've done it two or three times. You get to know the car REALLY fast.
If it is a t-top model and it rains you'll probably get soaked. T-top seals are around $300 for a set. Short of that, I love my MR-2. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

did the mr2 only come in 5sfe in america? I had a 3sge MR2 as my first car, loved it to bits except that it was auto and only two seater but yeah when it comes to working on it... it sucks

Either 5S or 3S-GTE. I say MR2. It's more difficult to work on but more rewarding to drive.

If you want something different, why not tart up an All-Trac? Same vintage.

I've owned a N/A MR2 and a Turbo'd MR2 and a N/A 6th Gen Celica. From my personal experiences, the MR2 are very fun cars because of the fact that they are RWD and also MR. The problem I had with them was that they were hard to work on. I would literally jump and lay over the the engine bay area just to reach in there and work on them or have the car jacked up on stands. They have stylish exteriors compared to the 6th Gen Celicas (excluding the ST205). But it wasn't what I was looking for. Over all, it turned out to be a car that I just had fun with driving. It didn't compare to the pride I had for the Celica. My black turbo'd MR2 was probably the most fun car I have ever owned, even comparing to my SR20DET 240sx's. Interior wise, Celica wins hands down. And maintenance-wise. the Celica wins again. For a good reliable car, I would have to say go for the Celica. Miatas are fun to drive too but 240sx's are funner. Too easy to turn 240s sideways with simple suspension upgrades. MR2's are fun for cruising. Their corner handling is amazing.
