Hey guys,

I mentioned in a post a while ago about a weird noise I near coming from the engine. It sounds like a metallic tapping. It seems to be most noticeable when i rev the engine in a gear and then come off throttle and let the revs fall. It can be heard in the cabin but doesnt seem to be heard when i take a vid from in the cabin.
I have a vid of a start up and you can hear at about 14-15 sec in (right after i turn the car on) sorta what it sounds like. There is also a bit of a funny ticking sound when its at idle. (excuse the fingers around 20 sec in)
Not sure if its injector ticking, since i can hear it in the cabin so i'm leaning towards valve shims that need adjusting.
Can you guys let me know if you think theres any weird noise coming from the engine as i dont know anyone else with a 5sfe to check with.

Thanks

This might be a stupid statement. But I have a 97 Celica so doesn't the 97 5sfe have a knock sensor in it so it will auto retard timing or throw a cel?

My mechanic told me that my valve cover gasket needs to be replaced yesterday because oil is pouring out of it and that could be making the noise. BUT he wants to charge me $200 for it and im 99.9% sure thats a BS price.
Is there a good place to buy gaskets online? or should I go to my local toyota dealer and buy it from there?

Thanks

i had a similar sound it turned out to be a bad passenger side motor mount whole car shook from it was really bad from 1100 to 1800 rpms, after changing the mount she purred like a kitten again. ps if it does turn out to be that mount its a different mount for auto, manual, and convertible, not sure what the differences are but i saw 3 part numbers
