Hey guys,
My 97 Celica GT just started popping out of 5th gear. I can cruise at lower speeds with it staying in gear, but when I accelerate at all, it will pop out. 5th gear is the only gear that it will pop from. All other gears are just fine. Any ideas? May have to replace transmission? -Justin |

sometimes if a shifter cable is loose, etc. it can cause a gear poping out issue. Other than that you'd have to take apart the transmission and see whats going on exactly with 5th gear.

You too? I completely lost 5th after having it pop in and out for a week. Also lost reverse temporarily; I ended up pushing the car out of a parking spot the same night 5th turned into noisy neutral, but after doing that, it seems to work now.
Really annoying having to cruise at 4300rpm at 70 in 4th, right? My gear oil was full (of little chunks). It also drained 2plus quarts. |

I still have 1-4 though! I have no choice but to rive as-is, with any luck, it won't die 200 miles from home at the tip of my commute.
