I've always used Castrol Syntec but I've heard the Castrol Magnatec was very good at preventing engine wear due to cold start, though I believe there is only part syntec magnatec, I've always prefered fully synthetic oils.
Any one recommands one of them or any other brand? I will use 10w40 btw. People seem to never be accurate when they talk about engine oil.. |

I've never had any problems with Mobil 1 5W- or 10W-40 in my MR2's 3S-GTE, but the debate on best oil runs long. I've heard "German" Castrol Syntec is probably one of the best, but it can be hard to find.

I've heard "German" Castrol Syntec is probably one of the best, but it can be hard to find. I've always ran on Castrol Syntec and never had any problems, thought they made one of the best oil. Always hesitated to go with either Mobil 1 or Castrol though and now that I've heard of Castrol Magnatec I'm even more confused though I'm not sure I like the fact that it's partly synthetic |

Hi,
10W40 is fine, but note that this has nothing to do with the quality that are just viscosity grades for quality have a look to the ACEA and API specifiacitions there is nothing wrong by using fully synthetic oils, they just becomes faster older due to the aditiv package -> aditives die faster against the base oil, so if you have a high VI you have more aditives in the base oil -> example: a 10W60 has more aditives against a 10W40 i just can recomend not to use a lower viscosity of 10W, the 3S-GTE is a old engine and not developed for fuel-efficient engine oils, you are also run more in danger of oil film breaks * so bearings, cams and turbo will thank you this especially when you drive hard for example, when i drive 0W40 my engine eat the oil but with 10W40 i lost nearly nothing * a 10W has typically a higher VI base oil against a 0W unfortunelty my english isn't that perfect but i hope i was able to explaine you a little bit greetz -------------------- |
