Bit of a newbie here. Bought my Celica a couple of days ago. The log book says it's a GT but the chassis code says ST202. Does that mean it's an ST and not a GT then?

QUOTE 1st part This is a code for which emissions regulations the car conforms to in Japan. E Middle part This starts with one or two characters denoting the engine series. (All SS-I SS-II SS-III celicas are a S [3S-FE or 3S-GE]) Next is the chassis code. All RWD Celicas are A and FWD Celicas are T, which is then followed by a series number. Gen1=A2, gen2=A4, gen3=A6, gen4=T16, gen5=T18, gen6=T20, gen7=T23 A further number indicates minor chassis differences. 2 (for All SS-I SS-II SS-III Celicas ) 3 (for SS-I equipped with 4WS) A final character usually blank (if none applies) or Convertible (C ) or Widebody Last part contains 5 or 6 letters. 1) Model type, where the chassis is used for more than one model. All Celicas are B. 2) Body style. C = Coupe. L=Liftback. K = Convertible. 3) Transmission. M = 5 speed floor mounted manual. P = 4 speed floor mounted automatic. 4) Trim level. S = Sports, normal performance. G = Higher grade. V = Luxury sports. Z = High performance. 5) Engine code. Z = Twincam (high performance), EFI, Turbo. F = Twincam, EFI (high performance). K = Twincam, EFI (economy). 6) Export destination (blank on JDM cars). W =Europe. so yours should look something like this being a UK version GT, (not a japanese version like mine) ST202R-BLMGFW or ST202L-BLMGFW the L & R are used for LHD, RHD and C for Convertible Theres a thread in the general discussion sticky which has some further info all about ST202's. But there are alot of mistakes in it, I am currently working on a new version which has alot more info. -------------------- |

mine E-ST202-BLMVF So they're very close, there's some trim differences such as the A/C. manual AC vs Climate Control system, gearbox final drive and what was changed during the facelift stages. Your's is also a facelift GT, which means it should have EGR on it sadly - which means a slight power reduction
here's another members celica with EGR on what to check for Japanese SS-II & SS-III 3rd Gen 3S-GE 178BHP @ 7000rpm, 142lbft @ 4800 rpm As fitted in UK GT and Cabriolet 1994 - 171 bhp (173PS) @ 7000 rpm, 137 lbft @ 4800 rpm. As fitted in UK GT and Cabriolet 1996 - 168 bhp (170PS) @ 7000 rpm, 137 lbft @ 4800 rpm great name btw -------------------- |

I'd take the lower-power 3S-GE, gladly, over what the US got. Anyway, welcome Rusty (not you, Rusty ).
Also, the previous owner took the liberty of fitting 7th gen Celica wheels - great upgrade over what came stock. Congratulations. This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Mar 2, 2012 - 3:53 PM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]
