I bought another celica. 4th one now btw and the person did a motor swap on it. its a 91 gts with a 5sfe motor in it and i have a plug on the harnest not pluged in and i think its the cold start injector that was on the gts motor. car will start but idle from 1000 upto 1600 and keep doing it. a while later the car will idle high so i hit the gas and the car will start to die. ive been told a tps or a map or IAC Which is 300 bucks i dont have. plz help and dont say junk the car.. it runs great b4 this happened

Might be able to find tests online for said components. Easy way to test is to unplug things as the car is running and see if it makes a difference to how it's running. Maybe something just needs adjusting. I had a 3000GT where the IAC had went bad, would idle funny and as soon as you put it into gear it'd choke out and die unless you kept your foot on the gas.

no i dont step on the gas at all. i start it and it will idle up and down till it stays at a high idle then i push the gas and the car loses power. the more gas i give it the more th rpms drop till i kill it.

Hmm, odd. Just start by checking all the components out. If the IAC, MAP, and TPS check out you know it's something else.
Something on IAC: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/103-3rd-...s-pictures.html Something on MAP: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/103-3rd-...r-behavior.html Something on TPS: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/103-3rd-...-tps-5s-fe.html Can get used parts for cheap. That and there's always Rock Auto This post has been edited by Box: Mar 13, 2012 - 2:13 AM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Have you checked for codes yet?

Check your timing....specifically around the distributor...sounds like it is going bad. My former 7a did the same exact thing...I checked every damn sensor, changed this and that..even the distributor cap, ended up the distributor itself was causing such issue.
You have a 5sfe 2.2 engine. Year depends on obd1 and 2, not engine model itself. This post has been edited by rave2n: Mar 13, 2012 - 2:58 PM |

Gives you step by step on both And I'll bet money its not the TPS. If its dying when you hit the gas, its most likely timing related. This post has been edited by rave2n: Mar 13, 2012 - 3:51 PM |
