Yeah, yeah, chastise me to your mechanically righteous hearts' content, but I'd like to know how long we can actually go after that little illuminated gas pump lights up the cluster. I was on a trip yesterday, and seeing as how I had 3 gallons to start with and I get 35mpg highway (95 ST), I figured I'd have a bit more than 90 miles before I really need to refill. Well, eventually I lost my grapes and filled up before testing my theory (out of concern for the fuel pump, which I don't know if that's just anecdotal or really valid).
But, from experience, how far have you folks been able to push it after the light comes on?

This is a safe place, no one will be judged or discriminated against for confessing the truth wink.gif

Well doubtful on the 35 mpg...been debated many times here. I've even mistakenly said a simliar number when it is truly closer to 25-30 mpg depending on how she is performing.

I've gone 441 miles on a full tank, but also had to stop...I think I could have made it to my destination, but not back to the gas station =P

Well, as far as mileage goes, I know it's more than 30. Maybe I'm rounding, but it has to be at least 33. Dang, now I need to build an mpguino to prove this.

And 45 miles? That's far! I don't know if that's a good thing because it might now encourage negligent behavior on my part...

My light seems to come on at the fuel level that I last filled it at... when I first got the car the gas light would come on after 10 gallons were used. I have pushed it 60 miles on the gas light (to work and back).

So, I wonder at what level the light comes on? And I suppose it would be different every time based on the slope of the surface you're driving on.

I thing it gets good gas mileage i only spend about 5 more bucks a week in it than i did in my 98 civic witch got 31 mpg with me driving it as hard as i drive the celica

mine starts to ilum at a 1/4 tank. and it pulses every few minutes until ti gets to about an 1/8 tank where it just stays on at that point.... dunno if anyone elses does that...
BUT, I've pushed mine pretty far. As best I can figure, and I do this with relative frequency.... in my 5s, when the needle in ON the E.... I have about 2-2.5 gallons left in the tank. I've driven at least 50 miles before on that...
But I know for a fact I've had it buried on the needle, filled all the way up, and only put in 14.5 gallons..... I've never put in a full 15+ and it's supposed to be a 16 gal. tank. So I figure I still have 25+ miles on top of that.

Side note, one time I did 315 miles to a 1/2 tank, was well past 500 with a quarter to go, and could have possibly reached my destination still, at 615 miles..... best mpg I've ever had. 36.7. Was driving to Long Island from east Ohio and almost did the whole thing in one tank. Didn't get gas until New Jersey when the guys I was driving with stopped to fill the truck and trailer up (was prolly drafting behind them most of the way in reality) - But makes for a good story!

Not long. Mine rarely comes on because I don't like to let it drop below 1/4 of a tank.

I try to never let the gas drop below 1/4. I haven't calculated it yet, but my uncle who owned it before me averaged 29 mpg and he's a lead-foot. tongue.gif

Every car will be different as the floats will all age differently..I can go over 120 miles with my light on. It comes on when I have 5 gallons left in the tank.

Depends.. On my St204 I have approx 100km (62miles) left to do when the light goes on. With the St205 I have around 20-25km (15miles) lol.
I drive on the orange light almost 60% of the time lol.

my light comes on at just below 1/4 tank and i can push as much as 80 miles of start and stop hard acceleration, but my gas needle is weird full to 3/4 is roughly 100 miles, 3/4 to half is roughly 60 miles, half to 1/4 is 60 miles, and 1/4 to empty is 80 miles. roughly 19mpg hard driving (deliver pizza)
