Hey! I was just wandering how does everyone get their car washed? By hand or through the car wash? What kind of car wash soap do you use and how do you get your car waxed? Yourself? Or hired some one? By hand or power tools? What brands?

I change my oil every 3000 miles
Change plugs an wires 3rd oil change
An ive yet to keep a car long enough to have to worry about much elsec

But if you just got the car id flush everything
Everyone( but me) seems to like ngk plugs an wires so id go with them
Then oil is oil as long as its name brand. An not synthtic
Use the prediluded antifreeze. An i like to you sychromesh in my trans.

Im sure others will give you a better run down than this tho
Good luck

Wow idk how this got posted here

Two bucket method, grit guards in both buckets, wash mit, and Meguiars Gold class.
Thinking of switching to a foam gun soon though. Optimum No-Rinse doesn't hurt either.

kurt i think you got this guys other thread in mind..

definitely wash and wax by hand.. idk what the wash i use is, but i use turtle wax liquid ice to wax, and occasionally use a clay bar kit before waxing.. use never-dull on the rims and anything chrome/polished aluminum

Definitely wash and wax by hand. I use Turtle Wax Zip Wax. It's a wash and wax. Can get a gallon of it at Wal-Mart for little over $5. Takes about 1 ounce for one wash, and 128 ounces in a gallon. So 128 washes for $5-6, can't beat that. Works great, even better than the Armor-All Wash&Wax I used before. That and it smells of limes. :3 I wash once a week. I'd say every other week is still good. Use a sponge, and a soft brush meant for washing cars. I let it air dry. Can go over any water spots on glass with vinegar or denatured alcohol. Once the water stops beading the way it should is when I wax. I wax by hand. Use wax of your choosing. So far I've been using Meguiar's and Turtle Wax. My wheels are clear-coated, so washing them is good. If yours aren't Mother's aluminum/mag polish is good. For faded black rubber/plastic pieces I find using tire shine on them before washing a good way to bring back colour. Also something called Back to Black for said applications, but I figure it's probably the same thing chemically.

2-3 bucket method with grit guards using a sheep skin wash mitt for the top half of the car and a lake country grout sponge for the bottom half. Soap is Chemical Guys Citrus Wash in bucket and foam gun. Sheeting method and an air blower to aid in drying process. Plethora of microfiber towels. Clay bar with Meguiar's OTC clay bar using Dodo Juice Born Slippery for clay lube. Seal paint with Chemical Guys Jet Seal 109 and wax with whatever I have on hand. Dress black trim with Chemical Guys Bare Bones, tires with Meguiar's Hyper Dressing, and wheels with Poorboy's World Wheel Wax. Just to start....lol

Don't wander too far...

I don't wash by hand - I wash by wash mitt. These ones from Griot's Garage.

Or lots of girls with daddy issues like this:

Oh Mai!!

I use two different car wash soaps... because I have two.
This

And this

No I don't use them together. They violently explode when they come in contact with one another.

I get my car waxed with car wax. Full rub down goes like this:
First:

Then:

Next:

Repeat wash, rinse, dry... Now this:

With this:

Then this:

Followed by 2 layers of this:

And topped off with this:

After you have this:

And people do this:

Griots is expensive, but AWESOME! I want to eat their blue spray on... whatever it was... It smelled like a blue Icee. Nomnomnom...

I use Meguires (God that name looks weird if you type it too much or think about it) Ultimate wash and wax for washing. All hand wash for me (unless it's winter).

For wax, I use either Zymol or Meguires Ultimate. I also use Meguires Ultimate Compound and Polish.

Process:
Wash
Compound with a orbital buffer
Polish by hand
Wax by hand

Results in: (Wax on this was Zymol)

That being said, I still have yet to do that to my Celica. Lmao... I cared about showing my Camry more than this car. This car is all business as where the Camry was all glam. Granted, there is an auto show coming up on the 28th that I'll be attending and showing the Celica at... so you better believe it's getting the full treatment.

2 bucket method with a cobra supreme mf chinelle wash mit, duragloss 901, pinnacle xmt shampoo gel, or chemical guys citrus wash, then dried using some quality microfiber towels, a nice coat of collinite 845 applied using porter cable on a red lake country 5.5" pad, tires dressed with optimum opti-bond, wheels protected with wolfgang deepgloss paint sealant, wheel wells protected with any old cheap tire foam then wiped down. after every wash i apply a quick spray wax using either xmt360 spray wax or optimum car wax. all seams spaces, anything where dirt collects gets done with a swissvax brush while washing, if i need a quick polish i will use meguiars m205 on DA or rotary using white LC pads, then apply collinite 845 or wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant(what i have on now). i refuse to go to a car wash now, good to see some 6gc members using high quality products and methods to wash and keep their paint up, a swirl free car is a happy car!. if you really have the time and effort read on autogeekonline.net forums can learn alot just dont fall into autogeeks marketing scheme's

quick edit, just because a product smells good dont mean it works good, look at iron-x or collinite, iron-x is horrible smelling but is a needed paint decontamination step especially for white cars.(i left this out above as that should be a given to do with your twice a year polish) and collinite 845 smells like solvents with a slight waxy smell but works so good i could care less about the smell...as i say dont fall into marketing hype. and any car can look freshly polished and cleaned/swirl free if taken in certain lighting conditions and angles, so until you do a full sun look over using numerous viewing angles you cant tell if a car is swirl free.

So when it comes to waxing.....Liquid? Or Paste?

I used Turtle Wax Paste on my car last time and when it rained. It surprised me how well it worked. So I'm just wandering if liquid would do the same job since liquid is much easier to wax with.

The actual wax in the two are identical, and if you're putting on small amounts the paste and liquid should apply with equal ease. The only real difference is how much evaporation has to take place before the wax can set up. This generally means you can apply successfully with a paste in slightly colder temperatures than with a liquid, but they're otherwise functionally identical.

The real difference is for application with a random orbital or rotary polisher. Given the pads on those are 6-10 inches across, liquid is much more convenient. Getting a pad into a can of paste for an even application is a bit of a challenge.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try out liquid wax the next time I wax my car.
