My neighbor has an 88 st he changed motors in from a usdm to a jdm 3sfe the throttle bodys are totally different so he may have more issues than just this.
His tps has no cover and all the contacts are bent all to hell and I tried to explain to him, uh dude thats not going to work like that. I was wondering what years interchange so I can try and find him one. -------------------- JDM guy made me do it.

We put a used tps in and tried it, it wasn't getting spark so we started checking fuses, he remembered he had pulled the efi relay.
It fired right up then promptly died, now it seems to be getting good spark. It appears it is getting fuel to the rail but the injectors are not opening, if you let it set, it will fire up for a second, then dies like enough is bleeding thru the injector, or maybe the cold start cold start injector is working. I pulled a wire from an injector and had him, turn it over while checking it with a multimeter, I got no voltage, but I am not sure if you would be able to tell anything that way. Any suggestions, I had a sort of similar problem with my corolla gts and it turned out to be the ignitor, but he said it was fine with the other engine. Someone come fix this thing, so I can get back to playing battlefield uninterupted.lol -------------------- JDM guy made me do it.

efi relay ?
grounds ? injectors rely on good grounds for proper operation, make sure he has solid ground on the EFI wiring side of the harness. swap injectors witth the previous engine ? is a long shot, but with a swapped engine there is always a chance for defective parts due to the engine sitting for a period of time. -------------------- |

I tried another efi relay, I had a few with the same part number from my old corolla. I will check the ground, part of the problem is I don't know
what all he did, what is usdm and what is jdm, it seems like when I ask it changes. First the intake was jdm now he says it is the usdm. I don't work on stuff like this guy, I take pictures, keeps stuff clean, and put bolts back where they come from, or in baggies labeled with black marker. He just seems to set stuff wherever. He has one set of injectors laying in the dirt, along with a bunch of other parts. I guess because I own toyotas, and work on mine, he thinks I am some sort of toyota expert. I hate trying to troubleshoot when you just kinda stumble into whats going on. This post has been edited by 97lestyousay: Apr 26, 2012 - 5:48 PM -------------------- JDM guy made me do it.

that's why I'm a total D bag, I make it very clear to everyone around me, I work on MY car, no on CARS, I know how to fix MY car and that's it, because I went through something like that once and said never again.
it was another celi 5th gen, and the owner decided to remove a radio + amp + sub enclosure and return it back to stock, he manage to blow 6 fuses get to car to not start and burn 2 wires part of the radio harness. and then call me, but didn't mention about the burnt wires, just said, I removed the radio and everything stopped working. took 4 days of troubleshooting for me to find the issues, THEN he told me, oh yes, I saw smoke coming from there but didn't think it was anything serious. never again. My car and that's it !! -------------------- |

yeah same sort of deal here he was going to pull the distributer change the module and all kinds of stuff, I suggested starting with the fuses then oh yeah, I pulled this (the relay) out. why he pulled it I have no idea. It rained last night and the cover was off that box with no hood so I think I am prolly done, trying to help. I feel sorry for him having problems, but I have my own problems, and it's not like I am getting paid for helping him.
