Next year I'll be getting married and been looking into where to go on the honeymoon, as I am a big fan of the US I couldnt think of anywhere I would rather go. My initial thoughts were to go to Disney World its fun and easy, but then I thought its the UK summer holiday time for the schools so it will be busy and very expensive (UK travel agents triple the price of holidays during school holidays).

Does anyone have any other suggestions on where to go, both in the US and Canada.

I used to live in LA so I would like to try somewhere different.

I dont really have any criteria for what I want, dosnt have to be a park, could be anything

Any help would be great

Thanks

What about things like the Grand Canyon, The Rockies, Yellowstone National Park, New York City, Niagra Falls, Miami, Washington DC, Hawaii. Hell, even Alaska!

Depends what you're into mate, but I think all of those (Alaska totally person dependant) would be great honeymoon attractions.

How long and what time of the year? Could take a few weeks and drive down a coast. (Start in Oregon and make your way down the coast with some detours to Vegas, Grand Canyon, etc or all down the eastern coastline finishing in Florida.)

It depends on what you are interested in I supposed, there are plenty of wonderful places to see in this country. I'm partial to New England since that is where I grew up. New York City is amazing, but again I prefer the feel of Boston. Washington D.C. is fun for the monuments. If you want to travel further in than the East Coast, the Grand Canyon is an amazing sight, but other than that its quiet in that area. Hawaii is exotic and beautiful (I'd check out Oahu), while Alaska is majestic, rugid and amazing (I highly recommend Seward). If you've been to northern Europe then I imagine Alaska is similar. The Pacific Northwest is nice, North Cali, San Fran, Seattle, etc. They all offer great things.

For Canada, I've only been to Montreal and Victoria. Niagra Falls is cool. I really liked Victoria, very clean and close to both Victoria, and Seattle.

Its dependent on if you want beaches, mountains, history, cities, etc..

Does anyone have any other suggestions on where to go, both in the US and Canada.

If you choose Canada you should go to Montreal and Quebec!! Both cities are beutiful!! I was at Montreal in 2009 for 10 days and i can tell you about all sights you can visit there, where to eat, shops etc..!! wink.gif

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I suppose it would be easier if I could give you a hint as to the type of thing I want...but to be honest I just don't know...if it was just me...a car a track and some petrol would do, but the misses would kill me if I find anything more powerful than a hire car.

I will do a bit of digging and see what kind of thing she wants!

Time of year wise, it will be most likely August.

What I would highly suggest, fly into calgary, drive through the rockies, up through the high plains of central BC, out to the west coast, down the Sea to Ski highway to Vancouver, catch the ferry across to Nianmo, and make your way out to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. If you want to experience pretty much everything Canada has to offer. I did this drive (minus vancouver island, did that about 2 months later) in about 4 days, stopping in a couple of nice small towns along the way. Stopped off in the middle of the Oakangan Valley, up through the mountains, spent a day in Whistler...amazingly beautiful, ever changing terrains. When I did it, it was May of last year and it was kinda crazy because we had weather that ranged from +20C the day we got into calgary, to -2C that night, to +38C two days later when we were up in Kamloops area, to -5C later in the day when we were up in the Mountains north of Whistler.

I would say come to Toronto if you like big cities, or if you really enjoy the outdoors, go head up ton Algonquin Park for a few days and go portaging. Canada has alot to offer, just our biggest issue is everything is so damn spread out.

As for the US, I've only been along the US East Coast and things are pretty nice there.

Niagara Falls, and any of the national parks. Double on Alaska, so pretty with the aurora borealis. If you just want pretty landscapes. I'd think going to all the national parks wold be really cool. I don't like cities though, more of a nature person. You'll get something figured out, besides it's about who you're with and not where you go. thumbsup.gif

X2 BC is beautiful. I took a trip up though Bonners Ferry Idaho making the loop you just mentioned to Vancouver Island absolutely magnificent scenery.
As far as the states there is a small town in NE Oregon called Joseph, you can rent a cozy cabin at Wallowa Lake. You can rent boats,(paddle, row, or motor)
go parasailing, ride the gondola all within walking distance of your cabin. There are muledeer around the camp area you can walk right up to even feed by hand. Hells Canyon recreation area is just a short drive, don't let the name fool you it is an amazing place. The drive from Joseph to Imnaha in Hells Canyon is awesome 30 miles over 100 corners barely any cars.

Wallowa Lake, the cabins and campgound are direclty accoss the lake from this shot.

^^^ This.

When are you taking your honeymoon? If you plan it right; you and your lovely new significant other could join us in the Okanagan Valley for The Run of the Ogopogo 2012 (annual meet). biggrin.gif

figure I'll post some pictures to help you make up your mind...
leaving from Calgary, Alberta towards Banff

Banff, Alberta- looking down on it from Sulphur mountain

Lake Louise, Alberta

Kelowna, BC(where the Ogopogo Run takes place that KAOS was talking about.)

Vernon, BC

Somewhere between Kamloops and Lillooet BC

Somewhere between Lilooet and Pemberton BC

Whistler, BC - Whistler Village (depending on when you go, you can go skiing, zip-lining, mountainbiking, and hiking all in the same day..lol)

Rest stop off the side of the highway on the Sea to Sky highway - Between Whistler and Vancouver

Cedar Cathedral - Vancouver Island

River off the side of the road between Port Alberni and Pacific Rim National Park - Vancouver Island

Tofino BC (my fav place I have been anywhere so far)

Hotspring Island - about 30 min off the coast of Tofino (you can catch boats out there, nice long walk along this pathway and leads you into a natural sulphur hotspring..

^thats me...note..don't wear jeans, its a bit of a hike and its pretty humid along the path.
Long Beach BC (just south of Tofino)

The west coast of Canada is just amazing. Doing the drive that I did, you go through everything from of badlands out in Alberta, mountains, warm Valleys (Okanagan Valley), desert (out near Kamloops), to mountains again, to Coastal temperate rainforests. It is absolutely breath taking and has soo much to offer.

Wow, those photos are spectacular.

It would be good to make it to a 6gc meet while I was over there and finally meet some people from this forum....don't kow if the misses would appreciate it, but it would only be one day.

Hawaii is always an option around October to January. Lots of surf and things to do. It gets boring fast though I should know

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

I know I'm late to the topic, but I went to Mont Tremblant, Canada in Dec. for my honeymoon. It was really cool, we went skiing/snowboarding, snowmobiling, even dogsledding. it was pretty cool.

If you care, this is my photobucket album for it.
