Sounds like a good time. Upping the compression?

Just a tad. Not of a concern since I'm not upping the boost that much on the stock head. Pretty much diminishing returns.

QUOTE (Smaay @ Mar 26, 2013 - 1:54 PM) *
why didnt you just contact ATS racing and get a crankshaft from them and use yours as a core? grinding down the 5S crank is perfectly fine, i even have one in my All-Trac

Just the shipping of it would've been killer, plus I'd have to wait over 2 weeks between shipments. (I'm in Puerto Rico) It would've probably been as much if not more than $560 when all is said and done.

So now I'm on the hunt for somebody who can TIG weld or somebody who MIGs and think he can pull off what I want. I want a custom downpipe for my turbo, v-band on the exhaust, and v-band on the wastegate. The trick is that I want a v-band flange on the downpipe flange, like so:

And a tube going over the vband flange like so:

However the tube would be with a v-band at the end, and not a 2-bolt clamp like pictured.

looking at your pics more, and understanding better what you want now, i could definetly do this for ya, that tricky part is getting the wastegate pipe located exactly where you want it.

Well it doesn't need to be EXACTLY there, it's just that I think that's the most comfortable place for the 5S configuration on the celica, since the alternator is right next to the downpipe (i'm going to put the turbine towards the passenger side and the compressor towards the driver side)

Message me if you're up to it smile.gif

Well I got the head back today, will be getting the block back tomorrow from a bore, hone, deck, cleaning, replacing the freeze plugs and paint.

I checked at my local Toyota autoparts and the complete gasket set price is $219, does that sound right? (I know it's in the ballpark of ~200)

Update:

Waiting on the rods, to arrive to start assembling the short block. Gotta buy a gasket set and both pumps, and ARP studs to have it all assembled

Update time:

TRD Rears

New H-Beams besides the 5S (left) and 3S (right) stock rods.

Awesome hardware on these

Up against 5S rod bolts (not a formidable opponent)

Up against 3S rod bolts (a much more formidable opponent)

And finally, my new v-band 38mm wastegate. Basically an outright copy of a Tial MV-S (I've had them side by side, and the differences lie only on the outside, visually speaking)

So is this still a student-budget build? If so, you have the biggest budget of any student I've ever seen. laugh.gif I can't wait to see it all come together, and especially see some dyno numbers. smile.gif

Yeah, I'd consider this a budget build with mid-grade parts, not ghetto-rigging anything nor going with $1250 turbo manifold that could probably serve as good a purpose as my $169 one tongue.gif

What I'll be using:

Studs installed in the block, tightened down all the way with an allen key and then loosened half a turn. I still have grind down the two below the scissor gears on the head.
