I have more 2ZZ valve springs than i know what to do with, would you want a set of them? I'd only want at least 1 to compare them to 5S springs (check compatibility) but you could do that yourself couldn't you? I'm not sure if the 2zz springs are the same perfect fit as the 2JZ springs. Wouldn't you happen to have a set of 2JZ stockers around too? hahaha -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

What do you have invested so far in the turbo components? Yeah the other thing I was looking at was EMS, and I think it's clear ms2 or 3 is the way to go along with the 98+ block and crank sensor and distributor setup. What did you end up paying for the ms3 and where'd you get it from? Love this thread man. Any tips would be appreciated as I'll be on a budget too, although over a longer period of time. Would like to get as much info
from the guys who've been down this path as possible while its still a trend of a few of us 6gen'ers |

Kinda like mine. My Celica was pretty bad. Now it's not as bad. I had to get some body work done along with a whole new paint job.
I got the ms3 kit (unassembled) from DIYAutoTune, and bought the extra package and wiring harness for it. I already have a MS2 harness installed so I only needed to purchase the MS3 Extra harness. I believe it was about $600 for the whole thing. As for the turbo stuff, I bought an eBay tubular manifold, an eBay t3/t4 turbo, oil feed, oil feed flange, oil return flange, and got my oil pan tapped for the oil return. I also had an exhaust flange custom welded by someone in the MR2OC forum (for a downpipe and wastegate in v-band). The wastegate is an EMUSA eBay turbosmart replica IIRC. All of it is what you guys call a recipe for disaster, lol. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Yeah I plan to start my project sometime next year, gotta get another ride bc my gt is my DD right now (flipped my truck in an ice storm back in January.. So the backup became the daily) in the midst of gettin a shop built to park it in until I can start the build.. Once I make my mind up which built that'll be, 3sgte, 5sfte, or 5sgte. I know some people knock ebay stuff, but I'll agree to a point, gotta be careful. But I've been eyeballing a few things on eBay as well, prices on some things can't be beat, it's the quality that's in question. With a 5sfte build I'm also thinkin about a t3/t4 turbo. Again, I look forward to seeing the end result of your build and possibly getting some advice later on down the road when I get mine underway. Yeah my car was rough, she's got 245k right now and still gettin it.
$600 sounds a lot better than a lot of the other EMS systems I've looked at. That definitely sounds like a bargain to me. |

Around $600 but it was unassembled (I got it assembled for free professionally thanks to a friend), and doesn't include the 98+ oil pump, 98+ timing gear, 98+ cam sensor setup, 98+ coil packs and distributor delete plug, and a couple other stuff you'll need but that's gonna be the same story for any kind of EMS you use. You simply cannot use the stock distributor signal for an EMS. It's not a tooth-ed trigger wheel. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Ok, yeah that's what I've realized when I started researching the significance of the 98+ setup, it wasn't just the reinforced block that was the advantage, it was the sensors and toothed triggers versus the single pickup on the pre 98 so it makes sense why the 98+ is better to use with an EMS. Like I said, the 98+ is easy picking where I live as the local yards have them I'd say 90% of the time I've ever went, but they don't last long, the 2.2 never sit in the cars for more than a day or two so gotta be on it as soon as you see one. What's the distributor delete plug? If I were to just drop in a 98+ engine would I still need that, or only if changing out my stock parts for 98+ parts? Thanks for the input.

It's a rubber plug that goes on where the distributor hole used to be. It seals off the hole basically. If you drop in a 98+ it will have it, and it will also have a cam sensor and a crank sensor. If it doesn't have all of it, it's not a 98+ Camry engine which is what you're looking for. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Alright cool sounds easy enough. That's good to know when it comes time to collect the parts I need. I always see posts referring to the 98+ camry engine, is that 5s any different from the 98+ Celica or Solara 5s? Just curious. Good stuff, thanks!

The 98+ should come from either Camry or Solara, not from a Celica. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Engine is in and it runs, video coming later. Car hasn't moved yet because I haven't bled the clutch line yet nor fixed the tranny oil leak that's coming from a badly installed axle seal Fun times. It's the bad side too, the short axle.
Anyhow, here's some pics: Before and after: I still need to clean up some wiring to be done with it. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Not so good quality video of the idle running on Megasquirt-III/Extra (MS3X) fully sequential injection with OEM Toyota wasted spark ignition.
Video:http://s269.photobucket.com/user/arolbreak...2379e7.mp4.html Cold start: (it was like 95* outside lol), it's only got a header and a DC sport 2.5" in 3" out stealth black muffler. Stock resonator sounds like it's just an empty can by now. Low revs sounds good, higher revs has got a lot of rasp and it drones considerably. There's a lot of factors to this, from the restricted 2" to 1.75" stock exhaust and the non-existent resonator can. When the turbo's on it probably will sound a lot better.
