I have been searching for days but can't find any forged pistons that are designed for the 5sfe block and the 5sfe head. Everything available is for the 5sfe block and 3sgte head, or to work with 3sgte rods. Do they have to be custom made? or is there a supplier that I haven't found yet?

PS I am going to be turboing the 5sfe.

Thanks

*EDIT* They need to be stock size. I don't want to bore it, just a quick hone upon installation

how much power do you want to make?? there have been several 250+ HP 5S-FTE's i think your best bet is to call ATS racing and see what you can use

250Hp is my goal. Its right on the border line from what I can gather with stock pistons. And looking into the future, is 250hp gonna be enough to satisfy me after 6 months-a yr of boost? I have a feeling i'm just gonna be wanting more so i'd rather do it once and have options.

It all depends on your tuning solution.

Stock pistons can hold 300hp easily with a GOOD, SAFE tune. (This implies NECESSARILY an EMS)

Otherwise, contact atomicspeedware.com They can make you forged pistons for the 5sfe to use with 5sfe rods, or 3s-gte rods. DO buy the TotalSeal rings they offer with their piston kit... that way you won't have to worry about cracked ringlands nor excessive blowby. Those rings are made to withstand heat to a point where they expand minimally and don't score your cylinder walls nor crack your ringlands.

I think they make 9.0:1 pistons for the 5s-fe. The stock rods are good up to a lot of extra power. They're bigger than most stock rods. Just make sure you modify them to fit 3s-gte ARP rod bolts. That is their only weakness, the rod bolts.

Good luck! Glad to know there's somebody else doing the same as I am!

its not swelling rings that breaks ringlands, its detonation.

This may be really dumb but I have to ask. Instead of forking out approx $600 for the pistons could I cheap out and just buy new rings and new rod bolts that will hold up? Everything I hear is about the rings and rod bolts going and nothing about cracked pistons or what not.

Keep it at or around 250whp and you won't need new pistons nor rings nor rod bolts.

Just get a safe tune.
