Bazooka tube Options

Anyone ever install one of those bazooka bass tubes in their celica ?
I want something that will give me some low end without taking up too much trunk space. The bazooka tube seems like it would work well for that.

I've had one in the past and was not impressed with it. Not the specific bazooka model, but they've been around for some time in that fashion.

They are also pretty big, bout the size of 2 12's in a traditional box.

Speaking of 12s, from my exp. in audio, and reference of other professionals, bass is best heard/felt through a 12 inch speaker. How you port the box, or tube is up to what you are looking for.

I had one in a s10 pick up an it sucked. It barely made more bass than the stock speakers

If you want more low without eating up your trunk
Get a pair of 8 inch subs for the doors an a good. Compact amp. That will fit under the pass side seat
Thats what i did in my coupe. But my ground sucks i get that stupid. Whining sound if i dont have my subs set for just bass

I've heard bazookas before and I wasn't overly impressed for there size, I would recommend another type of powered subwoofer:

what about a 10 or 12 with a truck box (slim for behind a truck bench seat).. they technically may be the same volume, but seem to take up less space because slimness.. likely to be as wide as the space between the back seats, but less that a foot deep

10 or 12....you miss alot with just a 10, not saying they aren't good quality, they just cannot hit the whole spectrum of bass.

Atleast for those that have good hearing...but we are talking about subs in a car, usage does kill hearing!

My plan for the 1mz swap is to run a good head unit with a pair of 600 watt 8inch subs in the doors an a pair of 250watt(maybe bigger) 6x9 Speakers in the back. An a 300-400 watt 2 channel amp

You're right, but the problem is that you need to put it inside of a pretty big box to get anything out of it.
Trunk space is important to me, and I don't want some massive thing taking it up and eating up my gas money in the process.

Depends on the type of music you listen to. 12" seems like a good compromise though. Thinking about getting a 10" myself though, seeing as most of what I listen to the bass is punchier than it is low frequency. No boosted sub bass in my music.

What size did you have 6,8,10?
Was it the active or passive one.

Bazooka is very low end, low quality company, and that being said, is VERY over priced. If your wanting some extra bass and looking to save room, I highly suggest the Infinity Basslink. Its a 10" sub unit with a built in amplifier designed to work with factory or aftermarket systems. It's a super space saver and can be mounted in all different positions. Infinity is widely known for being one of the leaders when it comes to audio for sound quality plus it won't break your bank. You can buy them new for under $200. I've recommended them to many of my customers and had great reports from all of them. Keep in mind, it's designed to sound a little better than I factory subwoofer would sound. It's for people like me that just want to add some deep, rich bass to their system without sounding like a rap concert is going on in your car. It really fills out that theater surround sound kinda feel if you have the 6 or 8 speaker system.

+1 buddy ... Infinity, Pioneer, BOSE and JBL (made by Harman Kardon obviously) those are the premium brands most used by higher quality automotive manufacturers

I have read a few negative reviews myself. Usually, if failure does happen, it's with the built in amplifier. In which case people usually just add an outside amp to it. You should look into the Basslink II ... I have personally never seen a faulty unit, but I've read less negative reviews about the second generation. Must have fixed those isolated bugs.

If you have the space, time and money, you can't go wrong with a component set and Infinity's a great choice. Just do your research before you buy. Though Infinity is an amazing brand, some companies are better at certain aspects of audio or their just as good and cost less. Compare them to JBL for instance. JBL has been priced pretty competitiveness lately in my opinion. You also have MB Quart and Pioneers higher end lines for components. All that aside, if your not a complete audiophile, and are suck on hering EVERY note, drum, whistle and fart, I wouldn't spend the money on a component set. You then have to get a separate highs amp and find places for the crossovers, etc. You'd be amazed by the sound you'll get from just upgrading your factory speakers with high end coaxial speakers. You can bring even more sound out by upgrading your factory head unit to one that puts out at least 45 watts per channel. Make sure it's a good brand though so you really get those watts. Also keep in mind you want to take into account how many speakers you have and how many the unit allows. It will usually say "55x4, 45x6, etc". I'm personally happy with the factory head unit with upgraded JBL coaxial speakers. I'm not 18 or 20 anymore so I don't need my speakers to "go to 11" (probably a lost reference). The speakers go WELL beyond the sound level I would ever use with the factory unit. Hope this helped. I'm glad you answer any sound questions you have. If I don't know the answer, I'll find out.

Sorry, I just looked at your links. The Reference line is a decent line and those seemed to be priced well. Just watch Amazon, they sell a lot of out of date merchandise. You know, like "last years model" or even older ... which isn't bad, but they're good at disguising it so if you don't read every detail you end up buying the wrong thing. Nice thing is they have a GREAT return policy and service.

I would agree with this also. I have a 10" Phoenix Gold with a carbon fiber cone being pushed by a 300 watt amp in my Legacy Sport that POUNDS! You must keep in mind the individual acoustics that are inherent to each different vehicle. First gen Dodge Neons for example, POS cars but amazing acoustics. I'd use one for a sound competition car any day.

I have a bazooka 6. From craigslist for $50. Adds bass to all the 6.5s in the car. Can't really crank it like a boxed system tho. But good bass at moderate volumes, and it doesn't shake the plates in the neighbors cabinets when driving around.

I'm 20 and don't need my music cranked to 11, except for when I'm recreating scenes of Stonehenge. Any who, a 10" or 12" should be plenty. Plan on getting a 200-300W sub to match the rest of the system. I don't need overpowering bass, just better presence. Could probably make a box that'll fit in between the rear strut towers flush with the back of the rear seat. Provided you have the liftback anyway.
